My wife and I spent a night in Ardboyne Hotel recently. Hotel is a little bit dated but this was more than made up for by both the quality of the food and the excellent staff. We booked directly with the hotel and for 99 euro we were provided with a main course meal each, delicious, and a beautiful breakfast- very good value. To top it all off the covid 19 precautions put in place, hand sanitizers everywhere, tables being cleaned and disinfected regularly, made us feel at ease.

We stayed in a disabled room room 112, 2 adults and 2 kids, the hotel in general it is nice considering it is a 3 stars hotel, staff was lovely all around specially at dinner we were served by a Moldovan waitress she was very professional delivering the service, I had a curry that was delicious, my partner a steak that I tried but I was expecting better flavour and texture considering it not cheap this option, my son hard an adult burger and he was very happy with it. The room was in need of some TLC, I didn't mind that colours of walls didn't much the decoration, I didn't mind the we got a wall view from our window, I didn't mind there was a 1 x 1 metre flaking paint in the bathroom but what I did really mind was that my bed gave me lower back pain in the morning, a very loud noise is produced every time someone opens a tap in the room or any near room, the handle in the bathroom had creacking noise louder than a terror movie door, there was only 1 used toilet paper for 4 people, shower head kept falling from the holder, now under normal circumstances I would have given to this hotel 2 stars but Covid19 had disrupted all businesses specially the tourism industry and I have to admit it is hard for any business a reopening so hopefully management will be able to address the more affordable needed repairs, we what a good value for money overall.
We enjoyed in general the hotel.

We were doing a day trip to Tayto Park and wanted an overnight close to the park to minimise driving time in one day. We got a rate of 102euro for 2adults and 2 kids, best value around including breakfast. Hotel pretty close to center of town, about 15mins stroll by the ruver. Check in was good with friendly receptionist. Reception area needs a bit of updating and minor redecorating. We stayed in room 112 and it was a very large room with a double bed and 2 single beds. Good selection of channels on TV and good free WiFi. We booked dinner in the bar and all was good. Adults had 2 courses for 22euro for 2 courses and the food was really good with large portions.
We intended doing 3 courses but were full after 2. Kids had half courses of chicken curry and these were also pretty big for kids courses. Staff were very good, attentive but not invasive. Definitely recommend family's staying for a quick overnight to the area.

This hotel is ideal for work, lots of parking and easy to get to. Unfortunately this is where the positives end. Took me ten minutes following cables behind furniture to find out how to turn off the bedside lamps as none of the switches will do it. Woke up in the morning to no toiletries in the bathroom. Contacted reception multiple times and after half an hour a little squeezy shampoo appeared, no shower gel. Later found that the toilet rolls were being rationed; you got a third of a roll and the best of luck after that. Breakfast was tasteless except for a mound of greasy mushrooms which I didn't order, nor were on the menu. I don't eat mushrooms but that morning everything tasted of mushroom. Turns out the chef didn't know the menu had changed ..... "Hello??" Maybe it's something to do with Covid but if you can't get the basics right, get out of the business.

Before you book this hotel you should know that there are two different types of rooms available. The rooms that are pictured on the website are fine but the majority of the rooms are not like this. We booked 2 rooms for 2 nights and on arriving we were allocated rooms with just one bed in them and as we had booked twins had to move. We left our luggage and headed out and it was only when we got back to sleep we really saw how bad the rooms were. Torn wallpaper, falling apart lampshades, stains on the walls, the toilets are hard to flush, (no safes or air con as advertised) but what is most worrying was the fact that just as my daughter was going to sleep the radiator started making a horrendous noise and emitted a very bad overpowering smell. I turned the radiator off and opened the curtains and windows to air out the room. I emailed the hotel and the next morning met with the duty manager and we moved rooms for our second night. We had dinner on the second night which was lovely and the staff in the dining room made my daughter pancakes both mornings even though they are not on the menu. Staff were also very helpful with my sister who was trying to book a PCR test before flying out from Dublin Airport. Before we checked out I asked for a refund for the first nights accommodation but there was no manager on duty to speak with and I was told someone would get back to me. 9 days later no one has contacted me and I have emailed twice and been told "unfortunately, our Deputy General Manager is unavailable at the moment. Rest assured I have passed on your complaint". The staff are lovely there but based on my experience I would not recommend this hotel.

AVOID AT ALL COST*****
Wallpaper hanging off walls dirty smelly furniture in the lobby looks like something stuck in a time warp. Food nothing far from vile. Head chef looks so unhygienic serving carvery with dandruff all over her chef coat. General Manger is a joke of a man don't know how he got his position I genuinely dont think he is all together there he just nods and mumbles cant understand him when making a complaint. Only thing about this place that keeps it standing is its staff and I dont mean management I mean the bar staff, reception staff, restaurant staff places needs new management and a BIG revamp!!!! Would never return

Stayed for two nights and was very disappointed with almost every aspect considering how expensive a 2 night bnb was . The ‘no smoking ‘ near food rule seems to be depending on which staff is working. During a huge downpour smokers were basically told tough look and to stand in the rain as only people paying for food are entitled to shelter during the day apparently .

We paid €30 for afternoon tea which we were asked on arrival what time the next day we wanted it at. The next day we had a later breakfast and when the receptionist asked the kitchen staff infront of us if this was possible the response was ‘oh yeah sure it’s all in the fridge there since morning throw it out to them whenever’ . We then got soggy, non variety of sandwiches . The majority of the afternoon tea selection was a shop bought lemon drizzle cake. They had crisps on top of the sandwiches (clearly since morning too) and they were almost disintegrating when touched they were so soggy. Surely for €30 an afternoon tea should be freshly prepared ??
During the afternoon tea itself we witnessed probably the worst of their customer service out whole stay.
It began with a guy who was being trained in by a girl who along with some other staff member were shouting all over reception talking to each other about the match the night before and were cursing at each other that they ‘couldn’t f***ing believe it’... surely not what an afternoon tea experience should be , we could barely hear ourselves talk over them.

Then, to top off the ‘quality’ service, a new member of staff came up to them with a cappuccino on a tray asking if it was ok as she has never made one before , all members of staff at reception began to laugh at it and how ‘watery it was’ and she was told to bring the cup out to the customer and they would show her later on how to make one properly. Totally unacceptable to dish a €3.50 cappuccino that you have physically laughed out loud about the quality of to a paying customer and really shows the current standard and standard they are training new staff that it is ok to have.

We went to sit on benches the second day in the sun and staff walked by us several times only catering for the people sitting under the shaded outdoor food area. My fiancé had to go in and ask for a menu which was then dropped over . We waited 45 minutes and then gave up on trying to grab someone’s attention to take our menu.
Every single drink we ordered had an issue . Be it a forgotten glass of ice, straw or mixer, which staff were clearly aggravated when the issues were raised and proper order was requested.

Really disappointed at the fact overall the two nights cost almost a weeks wages for the most abysmal service. On checkout the receptionist didn’t even say ‘goodbye’ or ‘how was your stay’ .

Clearly a hotel that only cares about money and no standard of customer service .

Will never be returning to this hotel, from the moment we went in the door to leaving. First of all we went in to check in and the lady behind the counter was so ignorant wasn't helpful in any way and was telling us we had no rooms booked which we confirmed only the day before. Second of all got to the hotel room kettle was broke and no remote for the TV, opened the wardrobe to put clothes in and the door was hanging off ! Third of all waiting over an hour for food and 50 mins for dessert (3 other people in restaurant so wasn't busy) and then having them over charge us for food in the restaurant. Then every time we left our rooms we had to go down to reception to get a new key card cuz they kept deactivating. Lady behind the counter was so disrespectful and sarcastic! Third of all when we finally went to bed i pulled back the covers to only find dirty sheets and hairs all over them I have pictures but can't attach them! A disgrace of a hotel!
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

There was initial reluctance of our Club members about holding our venue at the Ardboyne But I decided give the Hotel a chance particularly that our Club has been our meeting base for42 years .and the fact that the Hotel has undergone a major refurbishment.
The initial menu was uninspiring so we decided to request an upgraded version specifying exactly what we wanted nothing complicated Good quality Prawn Cocktail, Chicken Caesar Salad and a Soup for Starters , Medium Cooked Steak a Baked Salmon Dish and a vegetarian Choice , all served with a steaming generous portion of Vegetables and potatoes .Desert was a fruit Pavlova Basket

The newly refurbished Tara Suite where the Dinner was held was beautifully prepared ,The tables were laid to perfection .Few extra people that turned unexpectedly were quickly accommodated by the staff.

We had a champagne Reception and all the bottles were nicely chilled In a beautiful antique silver cooler.

All of our 32 very discerning guests found that the menu was excellent all starters were generous tasty and well presented . The steak ,perfectly cooked was the star of the show and the Salmon succulent . Pavlova was freshly prepared and was Delicious . Our Club compliment to an excellent cook .

Staff was great cheerful efficient and nice I cannot thank them enough for a job well done. We had a great night

The meal upgrade turned up at a much higher price but it was worth it and is highly recommended.

I hope that the renovated Ardboyne keep the high standard that we received at the Rotary venue and look forward for more functions in the Future

Dr Amin Louli President Navan Rotary Club

We have just spent four nights at this hotel. It may be somewhat dated but it is full of character. We especially liked the decor and ambience in the bar. Members of staff were friendly and helpful. The food was invariably tasty and well presented. Bed linen was white, crisp cotton and the bathroom was spotless.
Our feeling was that this hotel did not deserve some of the negative comments made by others.
