Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was, for the first time, travelling to Ireland alone. I usually went with my wife, but she advised me to travel on my own this time. I'm not into "the hill of Tara" except as an historical artifact, but my spouse had stayed with Sinead at the House before, so I was "connected." It was absolutely delightful. Sinead and Derek are fabulous; they're kids are "not of this world." The community itself is...what would you expect of rural Ireland? (For cryin' out loud, the Maguires run the area like the Hatfields and McCoys ran WV a few years ago!) The facility was remarkable: the "Hill" is but a skip away. There's a café...of course "Maquires"--I say that in a GOOD way, not a bad--just next door. I'm a tour guide by trade so, after breakfast one day, I was amused by a busload or two of tourists to see "the Hill." Okay, ladies and gents, I'm used to you. Overall I had a fabulous time. I'm inclined to want to put pics of the kids, Bonnie and Daisy, here, but I'm not sure it'd be appropriate. And, as to the "hill," it's spittin' distance, as I say in the American south, from the facility. There's some to learn in the Anglican cemetery attached to the church which is now that Hill's visitors' center. All I can do is praise the place. I'll be back sooner rather than later. Thanks, to all.

If you're visiting the Hill, it really is the best place to stay, not just because of location, but also because of the hospitality and Joan's wonderful brown bread and rhubarb jam! The place is run by Joan and her daughter Sinead. Sinead's husband Derek is also around and he's very funny. Just spent a delightful Saturday night here. We had to meet some people at the Hill of Tara last minute. Luckily, they were able to fit us in. As we were 3 friends, we stayed in the family room, which had a very comfortable double and a single bed. You couldn't find friendlier people. Joan's son runs the cafe and shop across the road and the food there is amazing. We were given a key, so we wouldn't wake up everyone when we came tramping in at 2am after a soggy night on the hill! The breakfast was delicious. All vegetarians. My two friends had scrambled eggs, which they said were lovely. Sinead's little one, Bonnie brought us out lovely fresh fruit salad, which we had with greek yoghurt. I'm a coffee drinker and I was impressed when Sinead arrived with a big pot of fresh coffee just for me! I pigged out on Joan's home made brown bread and rhubarb jam. We loved it so much, we've booked in again for another night in July. This time, there'll be 4 of us. Thanks ladies xx

Just left this amazing b&b. Happened upon it by chance, & boy were we glad we did. You could not ask for a nicer friendlier place to stay, you are treated as friends the moment you arrive, such warmth. You forget how friendly & easy going the Irish are, left planning our return, with some hotel chocolate for another chocolate lover 😋 the mum Joan bakes the most amazing soda break, my hubby said it was nicer than mine & i had to agree. Lovely treats left in your room every night. There is a lovely coffee shop/ lunch ,owners brothers place, again very good food & staff couldn't be nicer. They were very patient with me when They ran out of scones(it was 4 o clock) I am soooo indecisive but they were chatty & trying to be so helpful, top marks girls👍👍👍. so close to many places, kells 20 mins away, Dublin 25 minutes. We did a tour on the last day ended up in Dublin for something to eat then at airport within 30 minutes. The 2 girls are lovely a bit shy but sooo funny. Can't wait for our return Thant you sinead, Donald & Joan & not forgetting your girls & lovely chickens who gave us a wonderful breakfast. This deserves a 5*plus no wonder there is nothing but fab reviews . Thanks again guys xxx

When I arrived here at the beginning of January I was warmly welcomed by the friendly family who run the Bed and Breakfast at Hill of Tara. The house and room were warm and comfortable. The food was delicious and beautifully served. I especially loved the Irish bread, eggs freshly laid by the owners' hens, and the home-made strawberry jam and freshly baked rhubarb tart. I had my lunch and evening meal in Maguires Café, run by other members of the same family, with the same very high standards. Soup, bread, main courses, and desserts were all very tasty, and there's also a lovely gift shop on the premises. I highly recommend Hill of Tara Guest House and Café and hope that I maybe able to go back there in future.

We stayed here 2 nights and were very glad we did. The location is quiet and peaceful. The hosts, Derek and Sinead (and Sinead’s lovely mother) were charming, very helpful and super friendly. The beds were comfy and there were lots of pillows. Water pressure was a bit weak in our room, but we were at the end of the line and it really didn’t matter much to us. The room and the bathroom were immaculate and we found homemade (and delicious) fruit breads and butter every evening in our room. The B&B is located 100 meters from the entrance to the Hill of Tara and there is plenty of free parking. I would definitely recommend staying at the Hill of Tara Guesthouse if you are visiting the valley of the Boyne. You could not find better hospitality anywhere!

From when you come in the door there is a sense of calm here. It is a lovely house, lovely warmth; and is only 100 metres from the entrance to the Hill of Tara. After visiting the hill, I now think it should be statutory for every Irish person to see.

I first discovered Hill of Tara B&B, then called Seamrog B&B, in 2003, when on a winging it Ireland trip. It has been one of the best discoveries I've made in 9 trips. Joan Maguire is an amazing hostess and is now an amazing friend. Each trip you are welcomed with a cuppa and some kind of wonderful baked good, a big hug, then a great visit. The rooms are lovely, and the beds so very comfortable....Not to mention the delicious breakfast you are served. Now Joan has great help from her daughter Sinead and son in law Derek. At the top of the hill in Maguire's you can get an amazing meal and some really great homemade baked goods. The owner Michael Maguire is so friendly and helpful that you feel very welcome for sure. He also has some really great offerings in his shop from books, to jewelry, and yes, things with shamrocks. Tara is the perfect place to start any Ireland trip and is only about 25 miles from Dublin airport. In a nutshell, you feel at home, and the peace and serenity you feel in Tara is impossible to put into words. You have to experience it to understand. I would never consider a trip to Ireland without a stay at Hill of Tara B&B.

We arrived in the rain. The hospitality was great, They gave us directions to a wonderful restaurant. We enjoyed learning about the five generations of the Maguire family. This B & B was in one of the most historic and unspoiled areas of Ireland. We felt like we were really in the country. We could see Tara Hill from our room. This was one of the must see areas in Ireland. We would definitely stay at the Hill of Tara House B & B again.
