We recently had the pleasure of staying at Viewmount. I was travelling with my parents and children. A friend had recommended Viewmount to me but I was a bit sceptical after reading some recent reviews. I needn’t have worried. It was the perfect retreat. From the moment we were greeted by our hostess, Amy to our departure 2 days later I was totally relaxed and enjoyed every moment of my stay. I would highly recommend for all ages. The website doesn’t do it justice.

The rooms were very spacious with a mezzanine level in the suites that could comfortably sleep 2 -3 children and downstairs a fabulous four poster bed, sofa and flat screen TV. The mezzanine would not be suitable for small children. My parents had a ground floor room complete with a wet room. It was at the end of the house so lovely and peaceful. The rooms also had products from the handmade soap company which was a nice bonus.

The restaurant had a beautiful stonework facade which contributed to the overall ambience. The food was just delicious, staff attentive and friendly and all my kids found something they liked!!! The chef, Siobhán even came out afterwards to check all was to our liking. The empty plates did the talking…

The tranquil Japanese garden was the icing on the cake with beautifully appointed water features and pathways, walled tunnels, a garden swing seat and lots of little hideaway spaces if you wanted some alone time.

During the afternoon we went to the Mall in Longford which is a large activity area with soccer pitches, a swimming pool and walks.

After dinner we joined some other guests in the library which accommodated a range of board games and proved a very enjoyable evening. There was also another room with a big open fire and sofas if you just wanted to chill out.

I was so pleasantly surprised to find such a gem on our doorstep and will definitely return.

We had a wonderful stay in Viewmount House on 1st Jan. Food was amazing and couldn't ask for better. Excellent service from Tony and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room was gorgeous while maintaining the character of the house. The house and gardens were maintained to a high standard and a both offered a relaxing peaceful atmosphere, a beautiful way to celebrate the new year.

This was our 2nd visit to Viewmount house. There were 26 of us in total to celebrate family birthdays. After thoroughly enjoying our 1st visit we returned last weekend. Our party ranged in ages from 10years to 90years and every single person enjoyed Viewmount. It has the space to let people drift off on their own but yet always easy to find someone to play a board game/chess/droughts/cards. We will definitely return again.
Siobhan the chef takes such pride in her work. Happy to accommodate all diets. Her food is fantastic and she sources most of her food locally. Her love for what she does is evident in the plates of food she serves and the way she speaks about her menu.
Amy and all the staff are so friendly and attentive while still maintaining distance. For us, it was like a fabulous, private house hire with the best staff. Can’t recommend it enough. Thanks so much for 2 very enjoyable stays

Dined at Viewmount House a number of years ago now and had a delicious dinner. Decided to return for Sunday lunch. Several staff waited on our table - they were very pleasant but totally untrained. There were several spelling mistakes on the menu. The table napkins were so damp they could have been described as wet. The breads were very nice but the butter was rock hard. The starters were good. We were not asked how we would like our beef or our duck cooked, the duck was served well done, the beef was served very well done. The vegetables and potatoes were good. The choux pastry for dessert was soggy. During the meal a butterfly descended from the rafters to my side plate. I brought this to the attention of a waitress who said she was terrified of butterflies and walk away! We chose wines from the more expensive end of the wine list and they were fabulous so thank you for this. All in all, we were treating another couple to Sunday lunch so it was just embarrassingly awful. It breaks my heart to write this review as I am so conscious of the terrible time the hospitality sector has had since March 2020 but we work hard to pay for Sunday lunch for four, it was meant to be a treat and it was anything but.

Just back from a birthday night away. Great welcome, beautiful characterful house in beautiful setting in Longford town. Shown to a perfect room No1 top floor, double bedroom with four poster bed and big en suite, complimentary water and fruit in room. TV had infinite channels. Bed extremely comfortable with duck down duvet! Beautiful views from warm room. Maybe could do with a nightlight for ensuite? Multi award winning Restaurant is adjoining. Menu was diverse and what I had was absolutely perfect! Top quality ingredients and unreal value for money. Small bar on site has extensive wine list and Heineken & Murphys on draft. Big warm fire to enjoy a drink beside after dinner. Breakfast was really good this morning, fresh fruit bar and cereal. Breakfast menu has a wide choice and food was locally sourced! Cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this family run guesthouse for anyone, we are a young couple. Some families and more mature guests there too. Lovely gardens and walks on site.

I had three and a half hours taken off my life on Sunday afternoon last tolerating bad food / bad service at exorbitant prices. To say I was disappointed would be putting it mildly. What should have been an enjoyable and relaxing experience turned out to be a tension filled exhausting afternoon.

The waiting staff were inexperienced and overwhelmed, there was no organisation and clearly no management in place. An hour long delay between courses was worsened by the fact that not everybody at the table was served at the same time. In fact on a couple of occasions requests had to be made for the missing elements of the meals including starters / deserts and even water.

When the long awaited food did arrive it was mediocre to say the least - certainly not worth the price tag.

It was 5 euro extra for the steak sandwich option on the already pricey 40 euro set price menu.

Compared with the established reputation which Viewmount House has held over the years last Sundays experience was one which I never want to endure again and if I never stand in this establishment again it will be too soon.............

The house is just on the edge of Longford. It is an old mansion-type house and has a nice garden and free parking. The entrance hall is in period style and is very attractive. The room we had was large. It offered a split level with seating and TV upstairs and a double bed downstairs. It was quite comfortable. But some of the fixtures and fittings felt a little cheap; the wifi was weak; there was some unrepaired damage in the bathroom and some of the "antique" furniture was very worn. Don't get me wrong, there was nothing really wrong; but the hotel website and the room price give you the impression this is a luxury boutique hotel and they did not really attain that level. What it is, is a nice, mid-level, comfortable hotel.

Would not recommend a stay here. We found it to be hugely overpriced for the service we received. We arrived at the house and wished to check it but there was no one around to check us in and give us our key. After some time waiting and searching for help, along with other visitors, someone showed up and gave us our key. At this time we also reserved a spot for dinner. The rooms were fine, we only had one robe when we were obviously a couple, and there were no tea and coffee facilities in the room. The gardens were nice to walk around. We went down to dinner in the restaurant as per our reservation and it transpired that our reservation had not been processed so we had a significant wait before we were seated. We had a terrible experience with service ie food not coming out together, no napkins nor glasses on the table, had to wait 30 mins for coffee. Overall the food was hugely overpriced. Breakfast the next day was very disappointing. For the price of a one night stay, the breakfast was below par, fry up was barely average and the pancakes were disappointing. Again the service was quite poor, no milk for cereals, no glasses for oj. Upon checking out, we again had to search for someone to complete our checking out. There is no consistent front of house person to help with any questions. Overall, hugely overpriced, very very poor service in the house and the restaurant, I was definitely expecting more for the price paid.

We stayed in Viewmount House on the night before we did the Royal Canal Greenway on our bikes. If we had known how nice it was, we would have planned to stay longer. Everything was perfect. We had three generations staying and everyone felt the service was designed for them. Our dinner was fabulous, and Beryl and her team went above and beyond to cater for some of our young fussy eaters, while serving the adults food that wouldn't look out of place in a starred restaurant at twice the price. We had 2 family rooms, which suited us perfectly. Every single staff member was excellent. We can't wait to go back.

Spent a night here recently for our anniversary, fabulous rooms, dinner, breakfast. Stay here to be transported back in time but with all the comforts of modernity. This really has to be the best value for money if you are looking for that something special, their attention to detail has to be second to none. Love it.
