Detailed Reviews
Oak Lodge B&B is less than 1 minute walk from Portumna's main street. Mary, our host, exemplified typical Irish hospitality - she was very friendly, helpful and enjoyed a good chat! We had our German Shepherd with us and she allowed us to switch rooms such that we were closer to the back door should we need to bring our dog out. The B&B itself is extremely clean with ample parking and nice decor. Mary also encourages guests to have a cup of tea or coffee for themselves during the day in the dining room. This was great as it facilitates a some chats and banter amongst other guests, while observing social distancing of course! The Full Irish breakfasts were quality as was the fresh cafetiere coffee each morning all of which got us well past lunchtime during the day. Mary also advised on what we could go and see including a local art exhibit, forest walks along Lough Derg, the local castle and she even booked us in for a tour of Portumna's (in)famous Workhouse which was an excellent history lesson and contained a bonus - an exceedingly exceptional hand carved bog oak famine exhibit. Overall, we had a great time - Oak Lodge B&B was centrally located, clean, dog friendly, great value for money and all with a lovely host therefore highly recommended!

I have stayed with Mary 12 times now (I visit for the horse riding nearby) and always stay at Oak Lodge.
Mary is a fantastic host, makes a wonderful breakfast and packed lunch and looks after everyone so well.
The B&B is well maintained, super clean and a minutes walk from the high street. I often visit with friends and love that you can relax in the breakfast room together after being out for the day.

We came across Oak Lodge B&B in Portumna through the local Tourist Office in Portumna. I’m glad we did as Mary and Peter Lynch were the most delightful hosts. The accommodation was excellent with very comfortable beds ; nothing was too much trouble to them and Mary’s breakfasts were a thing of wonder. It is not a surprise that they are so popular and have so much international repeat business. In short, we are happy to say it that over the years of travelling around the world Oak Lodge is simply the best B&B we have ever had the pleasure of staying in, in Ireland or anywhere else.

4 cyclists staying for a night. If there is a model on how to run a B&B then Mary is that model. Friendly, helpful, informative accommodating all in one. A jewel. Made us feel so welcome in her spotless B&B. We were greeted by the best cup of tea I’ve had in ages. We were given expert advice on where to dine and even made the reservation for us. The breakfast was one of those set you up for the day affairs and not simply by the amount of food but by the quality of it and the way it was cooked. I can’t recall a better breakfast in a B&B. This is a flawless place to stay that is a real home from home. Book with utter confidence.

I stayed at Oak Lodge B&B with a friend while we were out riding at Flower Hill for a week. I cannot say enough good things! Mary is the most wonderful hostess who will make you feel right at home. Her and her husband went above and beyond to ensure we had a great stay; driving us and picking us up in town and at the stables as we didn’t have a car, making incredible breakfasts and lunches and always ensuring we were comfortable and happy. All in all the loveliest people who run a lovely B&B

Staying in Oak Lodge has a real "Home from Home" feel to it created by the warmth of the welcome extended by the hosts Mary and PJ. It is spotlessly clean but has a homely feel. The dining/living area is open to guests and you are free to make a cup of tea or coffee as you wish. The food is top notch freshly cooked and the best of ingredients. The chat and banter among guests at breakfast is just lovely. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Mary and PJ are the consummate hosts! This inn is so cozy and quiet, but is just steps from anything you need in town. The beds were comfortable, and showers roomy and modern. We had an amazing 6 day stay, and enjoyed such delicious breakfasts!! The little extra touches and recommendations Mary provides are second to none. I highly recommend this inn to anyone in the area. You will not find better accommodations and service, or more kind people!

We recently stayed at this excellent B&B run by Mary and her team. She is a most welcoming host. The rooms are spotlessly clean and well fitted out and the breakfast is delicious. Mary's talents also extend beyond hospitality - this year she planted over 50 impressive flower baskets which festoon the main streets of Portumna bringing life and colour to the town.

A warm welcome from Mary. Our room was spacious and clean as was the ensuite. We were free to come and go and use the kitchen facilities whenever which was different but really good. Portumna is a lovely location. The breakfast the next morning was fantastic with Mary putting more and more on my plate everytime she passed. The all round experience was great and we will be back again on our next tour. I have recommended the Oak lodge already to a friend of mine travelling to Ireland next month.

This is THE place to stay if in the central Shannon area. Our hostess, Mary was the best we had in many years of trips to Ireland. The Lodge is clean and vibrant, all new fixtures. Food was great as well.
