Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went to this hotel and to be fair were treated very well by a lovely receptionist. I think Jacinta was her name. I went to the restaurant to ask for some coffee and a sandwich in the foyer. I was told by a waiter you can't eat there. I just said in case he hadn't noticed there were 2 people eating in the foyer. I went back to the receptionist to ask if I could have coffee in the foyer. She was told no by someone . The GM came up to me and said I was rude to the waiter that's why I didn't get it. I told him I was never rude he insisted I was. The GM is quite a big man, and terrifyingly standing over me telling me I was rude was actually frightening. I said there are other people eating in the foyer. He said they had afternoon tea so they were allowed to eat there. He then said he would serve me the coffee I was so perturbed by his attitude. His arrogance was actually horrendous. I spoke to another member of staff, and they told me he rules by fear. My background is in hospitality and hospitality recruitment. This GM really needs to be trained in people skills. I always loved going to The Shearwater over the years and enjoyed it, but that experience was the worst I ever came across. I never write bad reviews as I would rather speak with a manager and have issues sorted. There's no point in talking to this GM.

Terrible customer service. Booked night with tickets to event ,event to be paid in advance. Card authorisation appeared on bank statement and assumed funds would then be taken. Received call and email to say issue with card number or card machine. Rang and paid on phone 2 days later. Another 2 days later missed call followed immediately by email cancelling my booking as I had not contacted them. When I contacted them they found payment and blamed human error. I was booked with same hotel couple yrs ago and when got to hotel they couldn't find reservation . Human error again blamed, Seems more like procedure errors. Customer service on both occasions Terrible and attempted to push blame to me as I had not responded.

We got an engagement present to enjoy a night away together, unfortunately our experience was very underwhelming when we got to our room it appeared a rushed attempt at a turnover the bed was lumpy and our view of the main road left a lot to be desired, we went to the bar/restaurant ordered a charcuterie board and 2 whiskey sours the charcuterie board arrives with 3 small samples of cheese and hardend hams to be fair it was only €20 but I would avoid! Long after we finished the board the sours arrived and as underwhelmed as we where with the room and the board these drinks where the worst cocktails we have seen. We complained in hopes to get a new one but manager advised that the egg white still needed to "settle". I will attach a pic to show why we were disappointed at these 12eur coctails

Cannot say enough good things about this hotel. I stayed overnight on 24th November in order to get ready for my wedding the next day ( wedding located elsewhere). The staff were exceptional especially on reception, I had a few requests in order to be able to get ready at the hotel and nothing was too much trouble. When I forgot to order breakfast for our group ( 10 people including kids) they still arranged the most amazing breakfast for us to our room. The room we had was amazing, so much space, hair dresser, Make up artist etc had plenty of room to get around. Rooms had everything you could need. Beds so comfy. Would highly recommend.

First night out in Ballinsloe with my partner for a concert held in the hotel. We were warmly welcomed on our arrival by lovely Karen. She could not have been more helpful. It was nice to deal with pleasant staff which made our stay that little bit more enjoyable. Leisure facilities were of a high standard and were very clean. There was a great selection of foods available for breakfast, hot and cold options. 5 star experience and will definitely be back again!

We're just back from the Shearwater and I'm already planning our next trip! A fantastic hotel and we couldn't fault anything. The staff were brilliant, the food and pints were so tasty and the room was spacious and spotless. A huge thank you to Chloe the wedding coordinator for accommodating us and going through the wedding packages with us. Also had a treatment at the spa and felt amazing after it! Would most definitely recommend 😊😊

Stopped off for a quick lunch yesterday. I ordered the halloumi roll. Bread roll was toasted but halloumi wasnt melted, rocket was missing but replaced by mixed leaves. Come on chef halloumi and avocado need rocket. The side order of chips arrived well before the sandwiches. We were served by 4/5 different staff members. So as a result no tip sorry guys.
