Stayed here as a couple and have to say the rooms were immaculate and well equipped. The food in the restaurant was good too. One downfall was we had a hard time getting in contact with the spa to book a treatment, this was disappointing. Other than that we had a pleasant stay.
We stayed hear for two days as part of a trip around Ireland. This was the second of four hotels. The main problem was the food. I felt that because we were part of a coach holiday we were served evening meals which were inferior to the rest of the guests. The food quality was poor the 1st night and terrible the second. Night one the fish tasted off night two was a horrible dish of ravioli swamped in an thin white sauce. It was totally inedible but worse was to follow- A hard brownie like cake served on a white rectangular dish .At one end the cake and at the other a tiny ball of squirty cream topped with a glace cherry which was solid. Nothing between but someone had made some arty lines on the dish with cheap ice cream topping. Inedible. again. The breakfasts both days were good. When I tried the walk in shower I found the temperature control was locked at scaulding hot and could not turn. When I reported this at reception they promised their maintenance people would repair it by the time we had returned at tea time. I told the receptionist the room was 151. It hadn't been fixed when I returned that evening because they tried to repair the shower in 115. I just hope the next guests were not scaulded.…
Attend this hotel with my 13 year old daughter and wife on a Sunday afternoon in April 2022, to be told that my daughter could not be allowed into the venue. Staff and management where very rude. All round the worst hotel experience and did not care that the joinery took 2 hours drive and no indication of the age discrimination on there website
This was my second visit and I was equally impressed again. Very pleasant and plentiful staff. Nice clean room. All food most enjoyable. Dining service good. Exceptional value. Would happily return and have no hesitation recommending this hotel to others.
This is a beautiful spacious airy hotel. First time visitors. I attended as part of a dancing group for the weekend. Lovely room. Friendly helpful staff. Food is good but breakfast food was a little cold and also the gala dinner food while tasty was cold. Service was very slow hindered by a member of management who seemed to be isolating the flow. There were complaints and returns of food from nearby tables. Our potato's were cold and even when sent back came out cold again. There were many young staff who were excellent and very obliging. Absolutely top notch. We also had to suffer the indignity of bag searches on way to function on Saturday evening. We were all guests of hotel and many had water bottles etc removed from bags. It put a damper on our stay which was somewhat saved by an excellent lunch served hot and speedily on Sunday with no dramas. Pity that Saturday night have been the same...…
I genuinely have never had such a horrible experience with hotel staff in my entire life. We attended an event in the hotel and the staff displayed shocking behavior. They refused to serve people at the event with no just reason, would begin to stock the bar which was in no way empty rather than serve customers, they verbally abused other customers going so far as to tell one girl she was “a f****** disgrace” as she attempted to order a drink. I waited 30 minutes to be served while the rude bar man continued to serve those who had just walked up, when I asked politely he refused to serve me. They refused to serve a pint of water to a woman who was 6 months pregnant and accused her of being too drunk. There was a lot of younger staff I’d say ranging from 17-20 who were receiving disgusting treatment from older staff. At one stage we saw an older manager shouting at a young boy and physically shake him. Managers were rude, unhelpful and downright disrespectful. Such a shame to have a sour taste left left with so many people. I have NEVER experienced anything like this. Desperately sorry we stayed.…
We booked this hotel for a girls breakaway as the hotel itself had a fantastic offer on called "sparkle & stay" which was basically for €105 each you had a 2 course meal, bed and breakfast, a half hour spa treatment & a glass of bubby for either the spa area or the bar area all included, it was such good value so the 4 of us booked in for 3 nights (13th to 16th March) and my god was it a fabulous break away, from the moment we arrived, the staff could not do enough for us, we had a great laugh with the lovely girl on reception who was friendly and courteous, they took and stored our luggage as we were early so we headed for lunch, and the bar staff were friendly and helpful as well, nothing was too much trouble. Also a great shout out to the lovely spa girls, we were able to change our spa times so that instead of taking 3 separate half hour treatments we were able to combine two of the half hours, and the spa area is just beautiful. The lovely girls in the spa actually sent up bathrobes to our two separate adjoining rooms so we could come down ready for our treatments the following day, which really put us all in the mood for relaxation. I had a lovely girl called Clodagh who worked out all the kinks in me during my massage & she was excellent. After giving me a lovely neck and shoulder massage, she did my facial & whilst my mask was setting she actually then massaged my feed!! it was just sheer bliss, and I know the rest of our party all enjoyed the spa treatments and felt the girls went over and beyond. We had booked the dinner for the 3 nights for 6.30 p.m. and we were a bit worried going initially that the food would be a bit "samey-samey" but it wasn't at all, the food was just gorgeous, loads of choice, in that we all had different starters and meals over the 3 nights so there was no repetition, and I have to say the quality of the food in the bar was really nice, absolutely no complaints there at all, and the waiting staff were just lovely and friendly. It is really the staff that make this hotel fantastic, everyone of them work so hard, our rooms were lovely and spacious and quiet, housekeeping never disturbed you, the corridors even were quiet, and usually in a hotel sometimes it is hard to get in that relaxed state as there are always doors banging etc., but not here, the hotel wasn't overly busy but there was still plenty of people around and I think perhaps we were spread out well over the few floors in the hotel which is why it was so lovely and quiet. I love the fact too that the parking is very safe in an underground carpark directly underneath the hotel & a lift takes you from the carpark straight to the reception! The pool area is lovely and the jacuzzi was a lovely treat before the spa treatments, and I have to say the relaxation room is gorgeous, it's lovely and warm and muted in there, with lovely decor and comfortable loungers, with cushions and big warm fluffy throws to relax with & plenty of herbal teas & water and fresh fruit for guests to avail of. The Carlton Shearwater really is the gem in the Carlton group in my humble opinion & I have stayed in many Carlton hotels before, but this is the best one, due to the fantastic staff. I will definitely be going back there, without a shadow of a doubt!…
We had a lovely midweek stay- faultless! The food was amazing especially the breakfast the next day! The leisure center is impressive, the rooms are comfortable and the overall price was very reasonable. The hotel is very spacious and clean. We’d definitely return.
What a beautiful hotel, excellent staff, beautiful rooms, comfy beds and amazing food. Dinner, breakfast and lunch all amazing. The spa is so amazing, it's so relaxing, soothing and refreshing. The staff are friendly, helpful, and will make sure you enjoy ur stay. I had a lovely back massage. They do great offers too at the spa, Definitely will be booking again. Thanks so much shearwater hotel.
I would never stay here again! The room was dreary and bleak, not to mention the loud noise from the bar/disco until 2am on Sunday and Monday night!! This was my experience of the hotel. 1. The room was not ensuite - the bathroom was through another room and the light switch for that room was nowhere near my bedroom - so I had to leave the light on all night in that hallway. to make my way through the other room/hallway to the bathroom!! 2. The bathroom had no heating! 3. There was loud noise until 2am on both nights, from the bar and the balcony of the bar across the way from my bedroom. In spite of requesting a very quiet room when I booked and when I arrived, I was allocated a room facing the bar! Unbelievable to have this degree of noise, particularly on a Monday night - music, plus shouting, until past 2am - when I asked for a quiet room. 3. The hair dryer is stuck to the drawer and I had to pull out the whole unit to try and plug it into the socket. 4. There were 2 sockets in the entire room - none by my bed! 5. No fridge 6. No decaf coffee, or herbal teas, or even a biscuit in the room. 7. No bottle of water in the room. 8. The water in shower was lukewarm for ages 9. No hair conditioner 10. No bathrobe or slippers - check out the Radisson Blu in Limerick which is a genuine 4 star hotel! 11. The tap was falling off one of the sinks - the left hand side one 12. No make-up mirror in the bathroom 13. The doors bang all night as there is nothing around them to help them close gently. 14. The pillows were awful. The only plus was that the staff were nice and I got a full refund! Hard to imagine how this hotel ever got awarded 4 stars!!…
