Detailed Reviews
After having given us the choice between the grey hued bedroom and the yellow one (we naturally chose grey), George asked us downstairs into the drawing room and, lighting a fire not with peat but with fragrant logs, told us poignant stories of an older, gentler, sadly vanishing Ireland. Soft rains fell outside (splendid sun breaking through the clouds every now and then), sheep were bleating and munching grass outside the georgian windows, in short, everything was right in the world.
George had meantime gone out to very kindly pick some mushrooms near the house to prepare them for my wife, who is vegetarian. The venison for me, which still had shot in it (as it should be), was more than delicious. George had made some pasta by hand for our young daughter and when morning rolled around (after a sound and delightful sleep) he introduced us to the breakfast delights of "pinhead" porridge (a special oatmeal that must be cooked for half an hour). We stayed longer than planned, extending to a second night.
This place and George (and his dachshund) are an absolute find, a rare hidden treasure in an ever changing, bland world - it was a great privilege to have stayed there.

This was the first stop on our honeymoon after an overnight, transatlantic flight and I can't imagine a better way to begin the trip. We were exhausted on arrival and rested up in the extremely comfortable room. George treated us to a wonderful homemade soup for lunch and we were off to check out the charming town of Ballinasloe, which was a treat in itself as it is not a tourist town.
We returned to the house and did some reading in the sitting room with some wonderful wine in front of a roaring fire before having what was my favorite meal of the entire trip. George is as accommodating as he is a marvelous cook. Just a wonderful, relaxing night.
Breakfast was terrific and we had some time to talk with George, who reviewed our itinerary and gave some great suggestions.
George has painstakingly restored the house and he's very proud of it- and has every right to be! The house is beautifully decorated with charming antiques and is truly unique. Can't wait to return!

+1
Peaceful, striking and authentic, Ballinderry Park offers guests a warm and private respite, surrounded by soft rolling fields and picturesque mature trees. A restored Georgian country house from the 18th century, Ballinderry Park has been attentively and honestly restored by its owners, George and Susie Gossip. When you walk in to the main entry hall, you are struck by the tasteful and beautiful choices of decoration and restoration. Throughout the home, perfectly hued walls are adorned with a lovely combination of antique prints, porcelain and mounted treasures from the hunt. The bedrooms combine quiet beauty, history and comfort.
Ever the hospitable host, George Gossip is exceptionally accommodating. When booking, George offered review my general itinerary for the entire trip. He vetted my proposed schedule thoroughly, offering fantastic alternatives and suggestions and saving me from a potentially overzealous touring schedule. When my parents wished to attend services at a local church, George drove down to the local parish to check the times, to see if they were better than those of the neighboring parish. He is always willing to go above and beyond. My entire family thoroughly enjoyed George's company.
The breakfasts are delicious and hearty. Anyone considering staying here simply must plan to enjoy at least one meal, expertly prepared by George Gossip. We enjoyed two fantastic dinners, served in the beautiful Prussian blue dining room. George is both a superb chef and host, and you will enjoy your dining experience immensely.
Ballinderry Park is a truly special place, enveloping guests in the secluded peaceful countryside while offering some of the best food in all of Ireland. I highly recommend Ballinderry Park and encourage others to go to their web site (www.ballinderrypark.com).

This place is in the middle of nowhere. Very difficult to find and no one could help us or knew where it was. Finally found it at the end of a dirt road protected by an iron gate which we had to open and close. We arrived about 2:00 pm. No one there. After knocking and riinging the doorbell for 15-20 minutes called the owner on his cell and home numbers and no answer. We left and had to find a hotel in Gallway. 24 hours later still no return call from Owner. Very rude of the owner. We came 3000 miles to be treated like this? My advice is to stay away.

My wife, myself, and my mother in law stayed at Ballinderry Park for one short evening.
We found the place fascinating and beautiful, if a little shy of standard amenities.
The rooms are a bit drafty. There are no showers, only hand held sprayers. The beds are reasonably comfortable, but not what I'd call luxurious. No TV. No wifi. Just a big old quiet Irish country manor, full of history.
The three resident dogs are very sweet and quite well behaved, and we were delighted to meet them.
Sadly, we did not get to meet the owners, but their hired man was very friendly, extremely helpful, and cooks a mean Irish breakfast. Breakfast was delicious, served in the cozy basement.
We would have loved to meet the owners and chat about the renovation and history of the house, and of Irish history in general.
Personally, I'd stay at Ballinderry again, but my wife and mother in law weren't quite so comfortable. It seems more of a hunting lodge than a boutique inn.

I just picked up relations who were staying in ballyderry house ... I was so glad it was in daylight .. I really can’t understand how any business could have a driveway like this one !!! I couldn’t believe it as I was driving but asked in the nursing home st top of the road & they said keep going through the field !!! That’s exactly what it felt like ... my relations only stayed one night & I would t recommend this place to anyone ... sorry to say !!

Beautifully renovated Georgian manor house. Gorgeous dining room, beautiful sitting room, quaint bedroom. Access road with a few vacant, modern houses detracts from the ambiance. George, the owner, was helpful. Staff was very gracious and pleasant. Dinner was very good. Very nice abbey ruin short walk away. Three ring forts covered with trees also nearby. Great pubs and music in nearby Ballinasloe. A bit expensive overall.

We stayed in Ballinderry Park for a night recently on our way to Galway. We arrived just in time for a lovely dinner and had to leave early after a great breakfast. A very short stay but we loved the house, the food and the company .It was a magic moment.

this place is a hidden gem. Impeccably decorated, oozing with charm, delicious cuisine, friendly dogs, fantastic hosts and a beautiful property. if you would rather feel like you're staying at a irish nobleman's countryhouse instead of a hotel, then you should definitely stay here. definitely have dinner there!
make sure to rent a car since you'll want to explore the area independently.

After an extremely busy working period a calm and stylish retreat was desperately needed to rest and enjoy some of the fine country side of Ireland. Our beloved dog had to be at our side for this wish to be fulfilled, but pet-friendly places are hard to find in Ireland. Yet sometimes you get it all...
Ballinderry Park is probably one of the most exquisite destinations to be found in East Galway. Over several years, the Georgian house has been meticulously restored to it's historic specifications, without suggesting that all is old; after all the house used to be in ruins before the present owner discovered it! The entire place now makes for a cosy ambiance and oozes a traditional and tasteful, yet modern atmosphere. The old and antique furniture is present everywhere and put to everyday use, giving the guest a sense of belonging instead of walking in a museum.
The large guest rooms have beautiful, uninterrupted country side views and are equipped with large double beds, by far exceeding the size and comfort of many of the hundreds of four-star hotel beds I have seen in my life. Not to mention the classic bedlinen, matching the style and comfort of the house. The bathrooms are spacious and equipped with everything you need and all is kept clean and tidy.
Good food is quite clearly one of the most important aspects of everyday life for the owners and a happily shared joy. Breakfast is classical and deliciously prepared with mostly organic and local ingredients, wherever possible. At an extra cost the owner may offer the possibility to enjoy a diner, if time permits him to put his enviable talents to your service. There is no menu, but fear not: only the best ingredients and many years of cookery experience will enlighten your senses and bring the day to the best possible end in a quiet and personal atmosphere.
East Galway is full of ancient Celtic and Irish history. Historic places and famously scenic landscapes are right in front of the door... and beyond. Don't miss Ballinderry Park. You will cherish the memory for many years to come!
