We have just had occasion to spend a delightful few hours in a wonderful location experiencing excellent food, treats and services in The Moycarn Lodge in Ballinasloe Co. Galway.
This was the introduction of their afternoon tea service.
A New initiative by the business and a welcome addition to the already excellent service in the establishment.
We were treated to a warm welcome by Mary and Adrian and taken to the luxury of the Pines Room which was dressed magnificently by Miriam the proprietor.
An option of champagne was followed by a selection of beautiful teas which was accompanied by the most magnificent selection of food and treats. The petit fours, wraps and the interesting addition of sliders were second to none and prepared freshly by Gary. The baked products were also of the highest quality and wide selection was offered and freshly baked by Ann.
We spent over two hours being pampered by the staff wanting for nothing. All in all this was without doubt a 5 star experience which I would highly recommend to anyone. Thank you to Miriam Adrian and all the wonderful staff of the Moycarn Lodge.

Stayed recently for a business trip. Very large clean rooms. Bed was two single beds pushed together but very comfortable, lacked a comfortable chair in the room , they had kitchen style chairs. Bathroom facilities were great, lots of toiletries available for use. Service wise, we waited 5-10 mins to check in having rang the bell several times, I ended up walking in to the bar to ask if someone could check us in. Service was very slow all over. Even at dinner, waitresses seemed to be missing whenever we wanted to get their attention. Made the experience feel lacking in professionalism. However food was lovely. And the view of the marina is beautiful, also there is plenty of car parking.

Really nice experience, family of 5, young children. Service was great, very friendly staff, our seating was v comfortable and the whole atmosphere was relaxed. Kids had Easter sheets to colour in which really took their attention from hungry bellies, great idea. Food was delicious and great value for 5 people. Menu had a great variety for both kids and adults.

We have enjoyed food at this restaurant several times but our recent visit was awful, and i could not recommend it and will never go again.
Firstly the Vol-au-Vent starters were barely warm, we should have rejected them in hindsight, the pastry was burnt and stale to the point where when touched with cutlery it returned back to flour not flakes. There was chicken in the sauce but we did not notice any bacon which seemed to be substituted with small mushrooms in a dark brown sauce and some strange red and green garnish on top.
The main course of 24 hour slow cooked beef was more like shin beef which was very dry as though kept in a slow cooker for 2 days and arrived sat on a lump of mashed potato that had been on the plate for a good while as it had gone hard and almost turned back into a potato, the pile was completed with one small frozen Yorkshire pudding like from the supermarket, so a three tiered mound then a bare plate. There was the smallest drizzle of jus with a tiny ramekin dish of what seemed to be frozen vegetables but the worst thing that was served was the garlic gratin which looked prepared 7 days prior and resembled dry shaved parmesan cheese,(we didnt risk eating it).
The turkey and ham was very similar to the beef, the whole meal was very dry and minimal was just warm enough to eat but did not kill us as im writing this and still here,For €20 per main course it was appalling. The starters at €7 were terrible.
Our other dishes included a €30 10oz steak that arrived well done when medium was ordered it came with a small bucket of chips and a dreadful looking bit of salad on the side.We also had a very small bowl of soup starter and i mean small.
All i can say is the owner would be better served by changing the chefs and the design of the plated food ,sometimes it is better to concentrate on the quality and portions of the food and not the presentation in little bowls and neatly designed piles with a little drizzle and bowls. A bad reputation may be spared if you cook your food fresh and dont rely on warming it up after early prepping.
Thankfully my birthday wasnt spoiled too much as my family made it a great night :-)

Very disappointed with the chefs! Asked for a blue steak only to be told they couldn’t serve it blue and I would have to have it rare as this is the only way they’d do it for me which is very disappointing considering it’s they’re must expensive dish and I’d have to have it the way they wanted! We won’t be returning! I might add the waiting staff were very helpful ,Don’t go if your looking for a blue steak!!!!!

Christmas Dinner with family on the 27th. Table was dirty with dried in soup on it. Took an hour for starters to arrive, took ages for starters to be cleared away and main delivered, 1 main was missing. Took ages for mains to be cleared and then the waitress ordered everyone desert from the set menu even though some people were not in the set menu and wanted a different desert, she then refused to change the order as it had gone through to the kitchen. When desert did arrive there was 1 desert short. Terrible service from the waiting staff..could not remember orders .

My uncle has just moved to Ballinasloe and we didn't want to stay in Athlone again, so we booked this for a change. Quite lucky to get in as it only has 18 rooms. The view is amazing, shame about the weather, pouring with rain, even though it was late August. Very welcoming on arrival. Room was a King size double with single twin. Nicely furnished and Spotlessly clean. We had a drink at the bar before sitting down (also in the bar area our choice) and having a very good meal, the service was also very good. We then had family in to see us, which included a 9 and 11 year old and a year old baby. Our family were also very welcomed even though it was after 9pm and we had children with us. Breakfast was good for me but my husband didn't like the sausages so he was a little disappointed with that, but that was his choice, so I have still given it 5/5.

Great place to stay and eat !

All the staff were friendly and professional, Sheila on reception and Adrian the General Manager and everyone else I met - all were cheerful !

The room was simply furnished and given this was the start of the December freeze, it was pleasantly warm ! Good wifi with a seating area in the room.

I ate downstairs in the restaurant both nights I was there. Really lovely food. Such a change from the usual 'pub fare' !

Only 15 rooms, so they know you are a guest. The restaurant seemed to be almost full both nights I was there, and on Sat night they have a DJ / entertainment.

Probably lovely walks along the river / around the marina ... if the weather was a bit warmer !

Room 104 on 30th July 2023. This is the worst hotel/accommodation we stayed in whilst touring Eire. The noise from banging room doors and bathroom doors was terrible. There seem to be no 'soft' closures fitted to any of the doors which meant we could here all other doors banging shut. The noise from guests walking in the room above was like an army in boots. Noise stopped at 2am and began at 6.30am resulting in little sleep. Evening meal and breakfast was excellent and staff very helpful . Was going to mention the noise when leaving but the female on the desk just wished us well and turned away. Would not recommend unless you were hard of hearing.

We came for a week to see family and relax . The hotel and staff are absolutely amazing. So friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble.
The owners are very approachable and take time to meet the guests. The rooms and views are outstanding. Gorgeous food and great bar service.
Cannot recommended highly enough.
