Hotel, faultless. Everything worked, staff helpful, clean, good restaurant on site, car parking adjacent and what a view over the harbour. Even a balcony. Although the fishing fleet was laid up, conecerns over the EU fishing quota's, there was little if any noise intrusion.
We stayed here for three nights and having travelled extensively and lived in many parts of the world for over 58 years this hotel has to be in our top 5. Staff friendliness and efficiency, location, good food and views over the Harbour with a room fit for a Bridal Suite. What more can you wish. It is not pretentious and charges are fair.
I stayed at the hotel with a cycling group of 20. All the group loved the rooms, food was excellent big portions and very good value. View from hotel balcony of the harbour was awesome We had an accident where one ofthe cyclist crashed and needed a doctor or an ambulance. The hotel took over the situation and got an ambulance, when the injured man was seen to, hey had plates of sandwiches waiting in his room free of charge Most remarkable were the staff who we so kind, nice and helpful it would make you feel proud to be Irish. Well done to the Tara Hotel
We love this hotel and always call into the bar for food when we are in the vicinity of Killybegs. The food served today was as always, absolutely delicious. The Tara Hotel is, in my experience, the best hotel in Ireland for gluten-free food, especially for gluten-free fish, chips and mushy peas! The food we received today was very well presented and the gluten free battered cod was the best I’ve ever tasted! If you have special dietary needs, this place is well worth a visit and it will not disappoint. Not forgetting the professional, friendly and extremely helpful staff either. We will definitely return!
We booked very late, requesting a view over the harbour. We got a nice size room on the second floor with a wonderful view of everything the harbour had to offer. The hotel is right at the centre of Killibegs. You can walk everywhere. Parking is free anywhere in the town and was never a problem. The hotel covers all your needs, from B&B to and evening a decent meal in the evening, all with those wonderful views of the habour and Atlantic. So, the staff. First let me applaud whomever does the hiring of staff. We only stayed a few nights over the weekend. In that time, your staff, from the breakfast crew to the bar staff in the evening (Some doing double shifts), to the ladies on the front door, could not have been more friendly or helpful. All were the stand out memory, for us, of the Tara Hotel. Special mention to Rebecca (I hope i got the name right) who went out of her way at breakfast to inform us with brohures of events and attractions) around locally. So, what's the downside. I had one complaint. Me being so dumb, that it took me half a day to realise there was tea and coffee in the room. They keep it well hidden in the dresser. All the very best to the Tara Hotel. Can’t comment on what it is like to stay at the hotel. Only commenting on the meal we had which was appalling. Very, very slow. €9.95 for “squid rings” starter. There were four. Four!! Total rip-off (and they were cooked to the point of being rubber). But… the main 🤦🤦 I ordered surf and turf. And it was literally true. Surf and a piece of turf. Well, a piece of cow cooked for so long it was like trying to chisel through a piece of turf. To their credit they did at least deduct the price of the “steak” as It was uneaten. Overall, the worst meal I have ever had in Killybegs in the 20 or so years I have been coming here.
My wife and I went for a meal today 12/06/22 to the Tara. My wife had a warm chicken salad and I had a burger and chips. On receiving the meal the chips were as black as tar so I asked to have them changed. We had the meal and I never received my chips back. Not a happy customer at all and not good customer service to say the least
Had dinner in the Tara hotel this evening. It was really busy tonight. Although the staff were busy they were friendly and very helpful. They would do anything to help. The food was lovely, from the starter to the dessert. I would definitely go back again and I would highly recommend this hotel to all my friends.
Myself and 3 others said we would treat ourselves to a nice lunch in the Tara hotel as it was at the centre of killybegs and looked quite appealing from outside, as we walked in staff watched us walk to a table however didn’t approach us with menus we waited for a considerable amount of time for them however we had to go up and ask for them, after getting the menu which had very very limited options we had to wait again for our order to be taken. From the get to our server Sheila Immediately treated us differently from the other customers from looking around us the only difference we could see was our age being 25 and under and the rest of the tables were A lot older. Sheila had a terrible attitude with us and had an extremely condensing manner when it came to taking our order, she proceeded to slam our glasses and cutlery on the table while we thanked her with no response, All our hopes for a nice lunch as this stage were gone out the window and it only got worse as the food arrived. THE FOOD WAS ABSOLUTELY APPALLING!!! Firstly we were turned off our meal as we had a nice view into the kitchen where we could see staff shoving sandwiches into themselves and walking into the restaurant still munching on them, The turkey and ham dinner was rubbery and practically inedible the veg that came with it looked like it was cooked 2 weeks ago and threw into a microwave several times before it reached our table, The nachos arrived to the tabled and looked like they had just been picked up off the floor and thrown onto the plate, The “Fanta” was no more Fanta or club orange it appeared to be sparking water with squash We ordered a club sandwich and asked for bacon instead of tomato which we got a extremely rude response from our server Shiela stating that there is a considerable price difference between tomato’s and bacon, the sandwich was mediocre at least. Lastly we got the soup and a chicken salad sandwich which we couldn’t even eat, im not even sure how you can make soup and a sandwich inedible however the Tara hotel clearly are experts, We will not be returning and would not recommend this establishment to anyone, Ageism played a huge role in how we were treated in this hotel today!! We were discriminated against and did not think ageism was not still a thing in 2022…
We just spent a fantastic weekend at the Tara Hotel. From start to finish every one went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our visit. The Restaurant and the food was outstanding Yvonne and staff at the restaurant are fabulous. Deborah in the bar is brilliant and a great bar tender. Our room had the most magnificent view of Killybegs . My partner had a bad back and the ladies in housekeeping wanted to go out to get him medication and a hot water bottle. Unbelievable customer service. I will definitely be back
