Oriel House Hotel stands out for its prime location near Cork city and its exceptionally clean and spacious rooms, which many guests appreciate for their modern amenities and comfort. However, the hotel's value proposition is questioned by some travelers, who point out pricey meals and unexpected charges that don't seem to match the quality provided. While the staff's friendliness often receives commendation, inconsistencies in service, particularly in dining, leave room for improvement. Despite this, the hotel's overall inviting atmosphere and praised leisure facilities continue to draw visitors.

Room was clean but with a broken toilet flusher button and also peeling paint in bathroom. We waited 50 minutes for our meal at dinner however a very polite blonde waitress was friendly and offered us a free drink for waiting. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly. At breakfast the next morning we prebooked a time but when we arrived we waited 40 minutes for a table and when we received toast we waited 20 minutes for our hot food so the toast was cold.

When we went for breakfast the second morning it was much more organised so maybe it was just a chaotic time before. There is one big problem that really bothered us was that our room wasn’t cleaned once during our stay even though we put a “please service room” sign every morning on our door. We also prebooked a time for the pool and although there are Covid-19 restrictions the changing room was packed and the pool was flooded with people. My partner and I could barely swim around without bumping into someone.

I couldn’t fault most of the staff as they are lovely people however there are a few bouts of forgetfulness here and there so be patient.

Family friendly hotel, nice pool and gym facilities and good location to restaurants, shops and the huge regional park!
Family room was very spacious although only had king-size and queen size bed... further pullout bed could be requested for family of four. Room was clean upon arrival however daily cleaning was very poor (floor not even vacuumed for the 5 days we stayed) and expected more especially in the current climate.
Breakfast was very good albeit felt a bit chaotic. Selection of fresh fruit, pastries, wheaton bread and cereal available to lift yourself and cooked breakfast orders were taken. Food arrived fast and was very tasty.
Swimming pool has to be booked and you have a 45 minute session, which was perfect for me with small kids.
We didn't eat in the restaurant as prices seemed over inflated compared to the restaurants within walking distance.
We had booked day at Fota Wildlife park and hotel provided us with a picnic which was a lovely touch!
Overall the hotel is good and staff excellent.

Just back from my staycation. Well done to all the staff. We had to book our swim, dinner and breakfast but this only added to our safety. The rooms and public areas were spotless, hand sanitizers everywhere and staff wore masks at all times.
We had a mix up with our reservation, my fault but Colette in bookings fixed it no problem. We stayed in the Tobin collection rooms are amazing
Thank you again.

Stayed for three night deal, me and two kids. It was clear from lobby, restaurants and hallways that a refurbishment had recently taken place in those areas which looked great. Our family room was clean and spacious but the furniture was a bit old and tv way too small. Judging by some other reviews here, it would appear that refurbishment also required in rooms, but ours was fine. Reception staff friendly, helpful and efficient. On the hotel bistro front, I would agree with other reviewers that more attention should be paid to those waiting to be seated. The maitre'd, very nice suited gentleman should really be there all the time at front of house to get people seated, waiting times and queues too long. Waiting staff were nice but seemed stretched, they all wore visors, except maitre'd, who on occasion was helping bring food to tables (visor should be worn). On to breakfast in formal restaurant, there would appear to be ample staff, but as other reviewers noted, there is a lack of organisation. Now that guests book their slot for breakfast, there really shouldn't be queues out the door and could simply be solved by ensuring one person at front of house at all times to take room numbers, which is all that is happening as you choose your own table. There are enough staff to be assigned to areas within the restaurant, so they are responsible for a set number of tables, but we had to stop waiters to ask for order to be taken. Two ladies (managers i think) appeared to assist with serving breakfast to help staff but unlike the rest of the staff, they did not wear visors (a big no no). Food quality was good for bfast and bistro. Swimming pool area good and clean and hit with kids, slots have to be booked in advance and last for 45mins, pool staff very helpful and friendly. Changing room floors could be updated but not a game changer. Overall, a good base to explore Cork from and a relaxing stay, will return. If they continue with refurb on bedrooms and sort out the delays in bistro and at breakfast, it could be a great hotel.

Myself and my boyfriend booked a night at the Oriel and the room we were first sent to had a view to a courtyard which was level with the window and felt like a basement. The pleather headboard on the bed was cracked and chipped and had pieces falling onto the bed. The carpets had brown stains all over and the room had flickering lights. There was a very strong damp smell in the room and mould around the windows, it was overall filthy and shabby. We said it to the reception staff who were very helpful and said they would upgrade us to a deluxe room but unfortunately it was just as bad. It was a better looking room with a nicer view but still had mould on the windows, very standard shower/ bath (very disappointing for a deluxe hotel room) and there were fake tan stains all over the place and on the chairs in the room. Same damp smell and stains on carpets/ curtains etc. Cracks in the ceiling and chipped paint too. After this we asked for a refund and just went home. So so disappointed that they think it’s acceptable to book out these rooms. We were really looking forward to it and so let down. Very minimum you would expect from a hotel would be a clean, mould free room that does not smell. Luckily we lived nearby and were able to go home. Feel very bad for guests that travelled and had to sleep in these rooms...

We recently enjoyed a 2-night mini break at the Oriel House. The rooms were beautiful – spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff throughout the hotel were friendly and the food was amazing – we had breakfast and dinner in the hotel both days and each meal was faultless. We also had a swim each morning in the stunning pool.
It was comforting to see the hotel had taken its Covid-19 measures seriously with all staff wearing masks and sanitation stations were distributed around each floor and at the lifts. We certainly felt reassured during our stay. We went into the city centre and down to Kinsale during our stay which were both a short distance and easily accessible from the hotel and Ballincollig itself was a lovely little town to have an amble through. Highly recommend staying at Oriel House for a break in Cork.

Years ago I went here for my debs and remembered it to be a lovely hotel with great rooms. For that reason, I decided that this was the place for my friend and I to go for a one night stay.

In fairness, I could not fault the room we were in as it was clean, spacious and cozy.

However, We went for dinner at 7:30 and must say, It was a disaster.

The waiter, on our arrival (I think was the manager) was EXTREMELY arrogant which automatically ruined the excitement of dining here. We were going away for one night and hoped it would be very chilled with no issue.

We waited to be seated whereby we were made to feel that we were unwelcome. We got one digit of the room number wrong, and instead of him asking the name on the reservation, was implying we were not residents of the hotel.

When he finally found the reservation, we ordered relatively soon after. My friend is a vegetarian and so ordered a chickpea burger, I ordered a regular beef burger.
We were both starving but after my friend had 2 bites of his burger, I could tell he was not impressed. He asked me to try it and tell me what I thought. It smelt and tasted like fish!!! 100%.

When he approached the staff about this, they ensured they didn’t have a fish burger option on the menu so it could not be the case.

However , I know what fish is like and it was either cooked in fish oil or something but there was definitely fish in it!! Horrible!!!!

We didn’t ask for a refund as we are not those type of people but would never again return here.

I do not ever write negative reviews but I feel people should be aware of this.

We arrived to the oriel early on the Saturday and we were checked into one of the rooms in the Tobin collection with great efficiency, the woman on reception was extremely friendly and competent at her job. The trip then was even more so elevated when we walked into our newly refurbished room which was done to perfection. We used the hotel as a base for exploring cork city and the surrounding areas and with the bus stop just outside the hotel it was perfect. Overall I couldn’t fault the hotel the staff or the food and I will be returning on my first opportunity. Thanks again team oriel.

We recently stayed in the Oriel and the room was amazing! The bedroom was on the bottom floor with a stairs leading up to a closet area and a very large bathroom with couples sinks, large free standing bath and double shower. The girls in house keeping couldn't have been more helpful leaving fresh towels, toilet paper etc outside of our door each day. We ate in the bar every evening - The service was great for food and drinks. We were never left with an empty glass each night and the vegan options were great! The reception staff couldn't have been nicer who greeted us as we walked by each time. The foyer was so comfortable that you could no doubt sit there and have some drinks in the evening if you preferred it to the bar.

It must be very hard for hotels and their staff in recent times with restrictions etc so I really appreciate the effort the staff of the Oriel go to, to ensure that you have a relaxing and enjoyable time. Each time we visit this hotel the service doesn't change. Definitely one of our favourites overall!
