Willowhill House is strategically located between Kinsale and Cork City, with an excellent gastropub located just a few minutes drive away. The house itself is a classic Georgian mansion, surrounded by fields. Claire and Chris are fabulous hosts, welcoming us with tea and cakes and giving great suggestions about the area. Our room was the largest one we have stayed in in Ireland and was perfectly comfortable. Breakfasts were wonderful.
My husband and I got the room of the photo above. It's exactly like that. Everything clean and well maintained. Breakfast is basic but very good. Best scrambled eggs I never had. The house has an interesting history and I loved the pieces of furniture and the lovely grounds. Very peaceful. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. There are great options of restaurants that are not very far from the property. A good base if you want to visit Kinsale and Cork city.
We booked this B&B in February and requested a King room for 2 nights. It was our understanding that all of the rooms were ensuite, however, we wound up on the 3rd floor with a bathroom across the hall. Unfortunately, they did not have any other rooms available our first night. We were the only people up there, but there was no shower (no way to easily wash your hair) & the water pressure was marginal. The rooms would be fine for a family with children since the rooms had an abundance of stuffed animals and toys, but we were expecting a different type of accommodation-basically an ensuite room with a queen or king bed. Our hosts were apologetic & moved us down to the 2nd floor with an ensuite bath with shower our last night. That room was lovely. Be very careful when booking your room to ensure that you get what you want, otherwise, you'll not be pleased.…
Our first visit to Ireland we were welcomed by Claire and Chris into their beautiful home with tea and cakes in the garden as if we were old friends. This is possibly the most comfortable relaxing hotel we have ever stayed in. The room, the garden, the breakfasts, the hosts - just perfect. Only stayed for 4 nights but wished we had booked for 14. Whenever we visit Ireland in future we will come back to Willowhill. Cant wait. Kathleen & Donald
We stayed here during our tour of County Cork and had an excellent stay. We were greeted very warmly after a very long, tiring day and given tea, coffee and cake outside in the beautiful garden by Claire. Chris showed us round the gardens and told us of the many walks we could go on from there. We did a trip which Clare suggested which was to Spike Island, definitely worth doing, the guide was so knowledgeable. We needed somewhere to eat in the evening and Clare said that previous guests had enjoyed a local pub called The Overdraught which she booked for us. Fantastic food and we even had a taxi service provided by Chris. A lovely stay.
The house owners were so very charming-- we were welcomed into their home, as if we were old friends! The rooms were a delight-- as was breakfast-- nothing was too much trouble-- not even my partner and myself-- when we managed to turn up 24 hours too early! We hope to return!
Claire and Chris couldn't have been kinder when we arrived late evening to check in, as we had lost track of time exploring the countryside after dinner in Cork. The home is meticulously clean and decorated beautifully. The gardens are a great place to enjoy after breakfast which was phenomenal (ask Claire about the history of the home and Gardens, it's fascinating!). We stayed in the Primrose room and had the entire floor to ourselves. The room was warm and inviting, and the scenery out the window was quintessential Ireland as I had always imagined it. Couldn't have asked for a more beautiful setting to spend our last night. They above and beyond treat was the recommendation on our last morning to stop by Claire and Chris's favorite ocean-side cove. We went and loved it. I can only hope we find our way back to the Willowhill House some day!…
Being my first trip to Ireland, I had all kinds of preconceived ideas of what it would be. Usually I over romanticize places. The Willowhill house surpassed all of my expectations and then some! The house and grounds are truly gorgeous, the hosts are welcoming, generous and amazing! We had scrumptious breakfasts! The rooms are charming and comfortable. There wasn’t anything that I could have added to make it better. Well maybe there is, the 2 nights spent there weren’t long enough. I could have stayed longer. If I’m fortunate enough to come to Ireland again, I will be staying at Willowhill House with Clare and Chris!!!
The Willowhill House is one of those places where you feel like you step back in time to a more genteel way of life. Here, you can bask in the atmosphere of pure serenity. The owners Claire and Chis have that special gift of hospitality that creates a warm environment . Breakfast was excellent and very flavorful. Both owners are a wealth of information as to the best places in the area to eat and visit. We would highly recommend this location !
OUTSTANDING! From the moment you get there, you don’t want to leave. Claire and Chris are simply amazing and caring. The rooms are gorgeous and very clean and everything you can imagine when staying in a 1700 Manor House. We actually had to stay an extra night thanks to the hurricane (really thanks hurricane) and it was a blessing that Claire and Chris looked after us for one more night. No power or running water to the hurricane, Claire & Chris ensured we still enjoyed the stay by fixing us up with lovely tea and a 5* dinner!! Believe it or not but Chris actually went and bought a whole turkey you would never get this treatment in any other hotel!! They simply want to make guests feel at home and that’s exactly what it felt like. Saying bye to them at the end was a little tearful and I really hope to see them again. …
