My husband came to Porvoo on business for a few days so we decided to come with him and stay at Hotel Sparre. We were really pleased with how welcoming the hotel was. We booked two rooms and they made sure we had adjoining rooms without us even having to request it. The breakfast was very tasty and because my husband was at work and the children were tired we requested a late check out till 2pm which worked perfectly. The rooms are very comfortable and the beds are cosy. The location is great and the old town area is just up the road. All in all we had an excellent stay.
Staff is really helpful. When you arrive Sundays after desk closingtime, they will arrange codes and an envelope for you. Any question will be answered in no time. There is a possibility to park your car underground, they will tell you where that is. €10 a night. Location is perfect, When you cross the main Street you're in the old town of Porvoo. Breakfast is very nice. Rooms are clean and the beds are really fine.
Stayed at Sparre with my two boys (10 and 8 yrs) in their Superior room which was very spacious and nice looking. TV set was also good as we watched Finland beat Ireland 1-0 :) After the game we went to large and tidy sauna, and in the morning had very versatile and well-prepared breakfast. Staff was helpful and nice, so overall very pleasant stay and really good value for money.
A bathroom can be build without floor heating, but then the floor material has to be water proof. Unfortunately rhis is nor the case ( at least in the room we were) the floor was tiled and as water seeps through the seams as it does sooner or later anyway and mold will start to grow under the tiles. A strong smel mild greets you in the bathroom. Pity, since otherwise the hotel was quite nice except for some street noise in the rooms on the street side and and well situated..
Great location, only 5 minutes from the bus station, and less than 10 minutes walk from the old town. Rather outdated, though ownership has just changed hands and the management are very accommodating and positive about their renovation plans. The room was clean and functional, breakfast was extremely good. The restaurant like the rest of the hotel is going to be renovated. Blackout blinds in the bedrooms will replace the current blinds as the hotel overlooks a busy street, however, the bed was comfortable and shower good and the room was spacious with an additional sofa. It worked well for a short stay and once renovations are complete, I think this will be an exceptional hotel due to its location.
Porvoo is a beautiful summertown, but there are a great shortage of hotels in the centre. We had to stay over night in the centre after the party, and Sparre was the only candidate. The hotel is in a bad shape, very worn out and the rooms has no ventilation at all. The service was scarce, but okey. The breakfast... Okey, you got your morning coffee. Beds are not confortable. This is more like hostels. It's all too expensive (120€/night for two persons); better price could be 40-50€ for that you get. If you can avoid, choose another place to sleep in.
Stayed for 3 nights. Our room was facing a busy street, I woke up constantly to the sounds of the traffic. If you book a room from Sparre definitely ask for a room facing the inner yard. Only then you can get some sleep. Breakfast was ok. It would be nice if the breakfast time could be longer, 06:30-09:00 was too early for me. On holiday I personally do not like waking up so that I don't miss the breakfast. The room had a small tv, double bed, toilet with a shower. Very basic and perhaps a little outdated. This hotel definitely needs a renovation. New windows & doors with better soundproofing are necessary. The staff is friendly, no complaints of it. The location is also great, all the shops and the old quarter are near.
Hello Friends! It excites me to even think about Finaland. If there is a country on Earth which is magical , it is Finland. Fin are very intellectual people and I have been lucky to have now couple of good friends from Finland. Some of them from Lapland , where there is a house of Santa Clause. I stayed in Sparre hotel recently. It is quiet and warm form inside.Sparre is sober, neat and clean hotel run by university professionals, all girls. Hotel is situated in proximity of major banks, shops and museums. Make sure you wake up early morning and take a sunrise breakfast. I mean the whole Northern Hemisphere will be visible form the glass window of the Sparre hotel and it will look like something created by computers.Friendly staff and good Fin food you can eat. I mostly prefer to eat sand-witches and fruits. It is a budget hotel so the rooms are small but worth if one has to stay for couple of days. It has a superstore underneath so I usually also used to eat outside. Lots of pubs and restaurants are there in that area. You can do lot of site seeing around the hotel. Its in the lap of nature. Go and breath the real world god created for humans. Please remember that when you go out you will have to carry your keys with you as after 10 the doors closes form outside and no one can help you to the access inside. Even if u enter with someones help than the access to your floor via lift is only possible with room keys. If you miss it somehow than someone has to call the number on the display to help you get in the hotel. If you loose the keys it is expensive. Enjoy your stay. Thanks!!…
I don't like leaving negative reviews. And there's nothing really wrong with this hotel but it is very average. The rooms with in need of refurbishment, however perfectly clean and well presented . The bed really wasn't particularly comfortable but I had a good nights sleep. The pillows were flat and cheap . The reception is hardly ever manned. But this really isn't a big problem for a hotel in this budget. No facility to provide ice when requested and even when we bought ice from the supermarket they didn't have an ice bucket for us to use. There is a bar in the hotel, and although we never visited, it does not look like it is particularly well stocked, I presume you could get a glass of wine and a beer but doubt they have a good mixture of spirits. There is very limited parking in the basement and on the first day had to park about half a mile away in public parking and walk back to the hotel in a snowstorm . There is a €10 charge if you can manage to get into the parking bay. Breakfast was reasonable and typical Scandinavian continental The shower ran hot and cold, but the pressure was excellent. Would I stay there again? yes probably however I would look around for alternatives first. We stayed for two nights and this was fine, however I think the longest they would have found many of the points mentioned above become incredibly irritating. There was just nothing outstanding about hotel Sparre, find for an overnight stay but pretty dull overall. One thing which is certainly a redeeming feature is it is in a central location for shops restaurants and also the iconic Porvoo Old town which is featured in another of my reviews.…
This hotel on the 3 rd floor near a shopping centre In my room there was no minibar The room was descent but nothing special. Close to restaurants and shopping mall. Breakfast was of good standard. And at this time the wire less inter didn't work was only accessible in the reception area.
