Hotel Chi-ya is an interesting little hotel just out side of San Pedro heading to the Village of San Juan. You can easily walk to the hotel from either village. This is not a hotel as most would be used to. The property has 7 or 8 rooms and small cottages. You are however on the side of a cliff... More

Spent 3 nights here in one of the cabins and were in-love. Definitely wished we could have stayed longer. The views from the cabins are incredible and the cabins very spacious with beautiful interiors/exteriors.. Barry, who built them is an incredible artist and staying in them made us nearly forget we were in Guatemala -- there were a few minor... More

My husband and I rented one of the 'apartments' at Hotel Chi-ya for the month of April on the recommendations of many TripAdvisor reviews and the advice of a person we met by chance in San Pedro. We were not disappointed! Our 'apartment' was the top level of a three-story building set on the same site as the cabins the... More

Cabinas Chi-ya can be hard to find, but that's because they are tucked away alongside the lake. They are located just outside of San Pedro - an easy walk from the central square out of town to the cabins. Or a quick tuk-tuk ride which can be easily flagged from the main road. The cabin we stayed in was spacious... More

We arrived early from Antigua and saw one bungalow it was lovely right down by the lake. I have a bum leg and the stairs would be an issue, so they had another bungalow coming open but the people were not out yet. So Lilliath had us put our suitcases in her office and we returned to our suitcases in... More

I found Hotel Chi-Ya (meaning, in the local Mayan dialect, hotel on the lake) on my serendipitous walk to San Juan, after several sleepless nights in party-loving San Pedro. Once I saw what could be mine for $16/night, I did not leave until I left Atitlan altogether. It is an oasis with enough silence to study in and a view... More

Be careful!! I let fall on the floor a necklace in the room (which was my boyfriend gift before the holidays) and forget to pick it up when I left the room. TEN minutes later, I go back to keep it back, BUT I didn't found it. I was very disappointed and I don't understand how my jewel could have... More

Having visited many times at Panajachel, this visit to Guatemala we went to San Pedro La Laguna. San Pedro is accessible by boat or by car. San Pedro is the home of many spanish schools with San Pedro Spanish School being the best. If you want to study Spanish at a quiet place by the lake with the best of... More

Set inside a hill between San Pedro and San Juan, with an excellent view of the lake, this is the best place I stayed at in Guatemala. Imagine waking up to this view through huge windows every morning. I didn't ask for any food, but had a cabin with a little kitchen which was rather well equipped. You have to... More

We stayed two nights in cabin 3 which is small, quiet, isolated and with an exquisite view of the lake. There are quite a few steps so we built up our quadracepts. It was a good warm up for the hike up to the rostro maya in San Juan. I hate to make them do extra work but it is soooooo!!! nice... More

“If you travel alone the rooms at the entrance are very good and simple with working wifi, If you choose a bungalow you can have a variety of amenities depending on the one you book. You can have a bathtub, or kitchen or a place with several beds to accommodate a group of friends or family. Call ahead and ask specifically about what is available.”
