About

#2 of 101 Speciality lodging in Ushuaia
Travellers' Choice

We were a group of 6 Australian friends who stayed at the hotel for 3 nights after arriving back from Antarctica just as the Covid-19 pandemic shut down everything in Argentina in mid May 2020. By the end of our stay at the hotel we were not able to leave the hotel and were told that our accomodation in BA was cancelled. We were fearful of becoming stranded either in Ushuaia or in BA and unsure whether we would be able to catch our flights home. It got to the point that we were the only guest in the hotel. The staff were amazing. So kind and helpful even though they must have been very worried too. We managed to get the last AirNZ flights out of BA which was lucky as our Qantas flight scheduled for 2 days later never left. We just want to say thank you to the wonderful staff at the hotel and hope they are all doing ok through this difficult time. Hopefully we can come back one day and say thank you in person.

t a time like this and after so many months without knowing if we could reopen the doors of the hosta, we are about to return with great enthusiasm. Thanks for your nice words, those comfort us a lot. And we wait for you in the near future ...

I stayed at Hostal Malvinas either side of my trip to Antarctica. The negatives: shower is somewhat small, I found it hard to get a 'happy' temperature in my room - it was quite hot with the heater on but cooled down very quickly if turned off, and I ended up with twin beds on my 2nd stay even though I had booked a double. The positives: staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast had a number of options (pastries, cereals, cheese, fruit), the location was fabulous to explore the centre of town, and it's reasonably good for the price considering the prices of accommodation in Ushuaia.

Despite inconveniences we liked this hotel and will remember its warm atmosphere and great hospitable. What exactly we liked: + Nice, comfortable and clean room with enough lighting and recent repair, there was a heater regulable by ourselves (although we were afraid to leave it on at night) + Comfortable bathroom with a good hairdryer and a hermetic shower cabin (but not new!) + Fantastic staff: they speak fluent English, reception is open 24 hours, always smiles and help with everything (they allowed us to use hotel’s fridge and served a mini breakfast 45 minutes before it started, specially for us!) + Breakfast was good (for Argentina) - with ham, two types of cheese (but the second was given in portions), fresh pastries and tasty tea + It’s possible to make coffee and tea by yourself for free and 24 hour (in the nice breakfast room) + Great location right to the city center and near the port + Wi-Fi worked well + At the reception we got the city map with all the necessary points indicated (cafes, shops) Unfortunately there were also many disadvantages: - Our room was cold, probably because of blowing on the floor and from the slits of the window - Uncomfortable fixed upper shower in a small and dark shower cabin (the light in the bathroom was only above the sink) - Poor noise isolation – it seemed that we weren’t in a separate room but right at the reception (our room was on the same floor) and we heard also all cars passed under the window - Our room was too small (it wasn't noticeable by the hotel’s photo), we could put only 2 small suitcases but there wasn’t space to open them, and with large suitcases it would be difficult to go to the bathroom or entrance door. It was ok for a couple of days, but no more. - Wet outerwear (in Ushuaia it often rains) we could put only in wardrobe where it couldn’t dry quickly - There was only one chair for two guests in our double room - Bed linen were stained – it’s a problem of many Argentine hotels, but we were sad to see it in such a good hotel - There wasn’t provided adapter for sockets on the reception, so you need to bring it with you

We had a last minute trip to Ushuaia and needed a place to stay the night before our embarkation to Antarctica. I found this hostel on Expedia and was able to cover the cost with my Expedia rewards. We wanted to stay somewhere that was within walking distance to our port. We had never stayed in a hostel before, so I was a little hesitant. This was a perfect little place to stay, we have no complaints. The service was incredibly helpful and friendly. The room was comfortable and clean. They also offer breakfast in the morning which was nice.

First thing that comes to mind when reviewing this hotel is an amazing Staff. They were all very helpful and friendly making our stay really pleasant. Hotel location is also very convenient - just 2 minutes walk from the City Centre and 5 minutes walk from the Beagle Channel. Room as well as bathroom were clean and comfortable. Breakfest was fresh and tasty and on top of it coffee, tea and water was available at any time. I can truly recommend this place.
