A well located hostel in Recoleta. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Happy to answer all questions. We stayed in a 3 bed room. Very noisy as we were there Friday and Saturday night and our room was located right beside the bar upstairs. Loud music and a lot of people shouting into late late hours. Rooms downstairs would have... More

El Sol Hostel is one of the coolest hangout spots in Recoleta. It's located conveniently close to bus/metro stops, and within walking distance to a lot of tourist spots. The building is gorgeous with very tall ceilings. The hostel has a bar upstairs with basic drinks including famous Argentinian fernet, all for much lower price than in other places. Here... More

Friendly and well informed staff, good location within easy walking distance to most of the touristy parts of town. Good value for money, clean, showers work well. Kitchen feels a little small but didn't have to wait more than ten minutes to use the cooker. Plenty of equipment. Supermarket, grocery and butcher located just round the corner. Standard hostel breakfast... More

We stayed in the hostel for 4 nights in a private room. As I usually do I checked the reviews on trip advisor to garner a feel for what was on offer. The first experience upon arrival was fantastic, the staff member 'Paul' (Chilean/from LA) was pleasant & enthusiastic toward us. Giving restaurant/bar/tour suggestions - which were great! There seemed... More

I arrived in Buenos Aires and got the wrong address (just a little heads up, there are two streets called Alvear in this huge city) and couldn't find it. When I finally realised that it was MARCELO T de Alvear, grabbed my GPS and decided to walk all the way there. When I was arriving I kept looking at this... More

The location in a posh neighborhood is great. It's definitely very safe. The staff and breakfasts are also ok. However, the place is in a giant ruined apartment. With a little effort (sealing the windows, fixing the kitchen sink, adding some hangers in dorm rooms or arranging more seats and tabled in common spaces) it could be so much better.... More

I Stayed there for 5 weeks total. All staff, from Thai (the cat) to the owner, are really friendly. All kinds of public transportations, including subway and the eco-bici (city bicycles) are near by. Plenty of places to eat, close to the Obelisco, not far from San Thelmo nor Palermo, it is hard to beat the location. There is a... More

We stayed here for tree nights, and had a private room with sheared bathroom. Clean room, no hot water on the second floor shower but you don't need it when you take a shower to cool down. Lovely rooftop with bar in evenings (live music on some Friday's). The staff is amazing!! They speak English and have recommendations for (budget)... More

Not only the location is great, but I constantly come back to this place. It is the people that truly make this place a home. Paul is great and so are the staff. Every time I come to BA, I come here. I have NEVER been disappointed.

Staying in Recoleta

Neighbourhood Profile
Recoleta
Characterised by the French-style mansions which are the legacy of its aristocratic past, Recoleta is the true “Paris of the South.” Walking around this neighbourhood is an experience like no other in Buenos Aires: its streets are lined with elegant apartment buildings, exclusive boutiques, and former mansions turned into high-end hotels and embassies, which exude an alluring air of sophistication and class. You'll also find a rich cultural scene centred on the National Museum of Fine Arts, the National Library, and the Recoleta Cultural Center; as well as some great shopping spots, like the Buenos Aires Design Mall with an artists' fair set up in Plaza Francia every weekend.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A great place at a great price for travellers who want to enjoy Buenos Aires while staying in a safe, central location. El Sol Recoleta is truly one of a kind. Run by a friendly staff that includes artists, adventurers and intellectuals from various countries, we're conveniently located at the southern end of Recoleta neighborhood. Sights such as the Obelisk, Plaza de Mayo, Teatro Colon, Congreso, Cemeterio de Recoleta and the Florida Street promenade are only minutes away by foot. The well preserved French-style building (1890) evokes the glorious past of the city's Golden Age, although the gritty, fast-paced and highly cultured vibe of contemporary Buenos Aires is never far.The hostel is located on three floors (sorry, no elevator, but we will help you with your luggage, no worries!). There are 4-6-bed dorms, private rooms with shared or private bathrooms. All the rooms on the 1st level have nice balconies, the 2nd level has an open-air terrace and a bar where we make most delicious pizzas and serve drinks in the evenings. At the weekends we organize concerts with local or international bands, don't miss it!The breakfast we serve is a typical argentinian breakfast with fresh pastries. "Medialunas y facturas", daily delivered from the bakery. Dulce de leche, of course :-) Plenty of coffee, milk an tea.In order to remain affordable we provide modestly decorated rooms and fewer extra services. Please remember that this is an affordable youth hostel, not a hotel. We'll go out of our way to make you feel welcome and well informed about our city.Tango shows, tickets for football matches, entrance to clubs and info about the events in BsAs - are only a few things available at the reception. We can call you a cab, arrange an airport transfer, provide you with maps of the city and the neighbourhood area.El Sol Recoleta is the perfect choice for easy-going adventurers, budget-minded backpackers and anyone else looking for a unique place to stay. Think of it as sharing a big house with other travellers.Nos vemos pronto!kind regards,Paul Gallinato and the El Sol Staff. ... more   less

“If you're looking for a dorm, choose the 6 room option. It's cheaper and actually better than the 4 room dorms. The 6 rooms have more space, located in a quieter area and have balconies. The 4 bed dorms are OK but not sure why they're more expensive.”
