This hotel is slightly out of the main areas of BA but that didnt matter as it was in walking distance of many restaurants. The room was great, slippers & robes provided and very clean with a little terrace. Breakfast was lovely and the staff were very helpful. The paintings on the walls are fantastic

We spent a week in and around Buenos Aires and stayed at Mansion Dandi Royal over a weekend to take advantage of its proximity to the Antiques Fair in San Telmo (about 5 mins away) and see tango dancing in the streets. We were not disappointed with the location but note that the area is a lot quieter during the...

Beautiful old hotel with friendly and accommodating staff. Rooms are well furnished and beds are very comfortable but there is a bit of a problem with noise. It's not unusual for BA from what we saw, but lots of glass and thin walls can mean that you have no choice but to wake when the earliest risers start their day....

Staying at the Dandi Royal was a real treat. The staff seemed to always go out of their way to make the stay special. Everything from offering us a cold bottle of water following our late-night arrival to helping a friend find us while we were out touring the city was handled with grace by the staff. And since most...

We discovered the Mansion Dandi Royal Residential Tango Academy in Frommer's Budget Travel magazine. We booked a 3-day package deal that included tango lessons and attendance at millonga's (tango dance halls) each night along with two meals a day and all transfers. The experience was delightful. The facility was quite elegant and the staff was extremely attentive and helpful. The...

We spent a few nights at this beautiful hotel, tucked away in San Telmo. While the hotel is a few blocks away from the heart of San Telmo, it is a great location if you want to enjoy the character, fairs, and tango of this area. The hotel is truly beautiful, and brings you back to another era. The rooftop...

I like art deco and chose this hotel for an overnight stay in Buenos Aires located in San Telmo on a narrow street. Upon entering the doors you have a special feel of another time with the beautifully crafted woodwork, grillwork, painted murals on the walls, and turn of the 20th C fixtures. My room was 306 which was small...

If you want a romantic getaway at an authentic tango school, this is the place for you. You don't have to dance to appreciate the atmosphere -- we're in our 60s and passed on taking the Tango lessons, but still enjoyed watching them. Each room is charming with its own unique mural following a tango theme from the early 1900's...

Overall, Mansion Dandi Royal is a comfortable and welcoming place with beautiful details throughout! We just returned from a lovely stay at the Mansion Dandi Royal in the San Telmo neighborhood of Buenos Aires. The hotel is actually two mansions that have been beautifully restored. We had a large room with a full bathroom and additionally a separate spa/jacuzzi. All...

We stayed at the dandi for 4 nights and took advantage of the tango lessons. The hotel is clean and the staff were excellent and very helpfull. The rooms were adequate but we found that not having a window in our room was a bit claustrophobic. The beds were also uncomfortable and the pillows resembled sleeping on a brick. The...

Staying in San Telmo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.
