Definitely has seen better times but the location is excellent, the service is fine, the rooms are clean, reasonably sized and comfortable. By European or US standards this is a 3 star hotel, and I think that is why people complain, but the building itself is impressive and the whole experience was more than acceptable for the money. If you...

The hotel has clearly seen better days, though obviously it is in a process of ongoing upgrade. My bathroom was fine but the curtains had slipped from hooks and not fixed. My bed was comfortable but room looked on to inside courtyard - pros and cons, it was dark so cooler but needed light on to read, it was quieter...

This is a very good location centrally placed in BA. Downstairs is faded splendour and it once was probably quite a grand hotel. There was a decent buffet breakfast, good wifi and the staff were very friendly and helpful. As others have said the rooms are very shabby and small but clean, The king size bed was fairly comfortable with...

The hotel has a very good location in the center of Buenos Aires, the breakfast is good, and the people at the reception are helpfull, there is very little noise in rooms, but it is a very old hotel, and the rooms strongly need to be renovated, they are small, dark and there is only one small chair, but for...

Shabby decor, stained pillows, no mattress pad on extremely uncomfortable old mattress. Requested king and were told they only had double beds. Air conditioner was in window, clanked along all night, very old as was carpet. Bathroom looked clean but again needed refurbishing. We definitely did not do our homework on this one. Morning staff pleasant, PM not helpful. Price...

We stayed here for 6 nights while discovering the city. You can walk to loads of attractions from here, SUBTE is right outside the door. If you are looking for a no frills budget type hotel this is a good option. Clean beds, good shower and our room was amazingly quiet. Gave us a 2 hour extended check-out, breakfast had...

Everything from the staff to the rooms was shabby. Changed three rooms and still not great. The management needs to spend money on this hotel. The carpets were worn and dirty. There were dirty hairs in the bathroom. There was mould on the walls where the wall paper was peeing off. The bath enamel was coming off and there were...

Secind time we visited Castelar and the hotel needs a brush up on several points. Sockets loose and bathroom should be modernized. But cheap on the internet and worth a visit. Staff professional - and nothing more.

To be straight from the start, this isn't one of the best I visited, not even close. However, taking in consideration the dirtiness of Buenos Aires and Argentina in global, and Buenos Aires high prices, this was one of the best deals to get. The hotel is old and rustic, but it is clean, the service is excellent, staff is...

Staying in Montserrat

Neighbourhood Profile
Montserrat
As part of the historic quarter of Buenos Aires, Montserrat is defined by the historical events that took place there and the landmarks that have stood the test of time. The Plaza de Mayo is at the center of this connection to history: countless public demonstrations have passed through this square, going back to the May Revolution of 1810. Walking the streets of Montserrat allows us to imagine what Buenos Aires may have looked like in the past: the Cabildo takes us back to the late 16th century, while the Palacio Barolo and the traditional cafés carry us to the early 20th. Nowadays, the neighbourhood is inundated every day by office workers, buses, and taxis; still, the cobblestones, narrow sidewalks, and subway stations from the 1910s remind us that we are surrounded by history everywhere we look.
