Our first trip to Buenos Aires and the hotel couldn’t have been better. The staff was incredibly helpful and the rooms very comfortable. San Telmo is the place to be for food and shopping. We will return!

We spent three nights there and was met by very friendly staff and manager. Not very luxuryously,, but nice, clean rooms and with quiet ac. Situated in San Telmo near Plaza Dorrega, many good restaurants and the tango show at La Ventana. The manager was very helpful in advising us where to eat, how to get around, how to rent...

We visited the Hotel Babel for the 3rd time on our recent trip to Buenos Aires. We love the location and the slightly quirky vibe. The hotel is small but it is right in the middle of San Telmo, our prefered neighborhood. The staff is friendly and interesting. Good restaurants are within walking distance.

Charm all around: location, ambience, and staff. The hotel is within steps of amazing cafes and bars and within blocks of the center of the action and still feels like a peaceful refuge. As others have said, the staff are amazing: warm, friendly, and helpful. They speak perfect English but were also willing to let us practice our bad Spanish....

We stayed for four nights here. Hotel Babel is a small hotel with (I think) 10 rooms - this small size means everyone gets a very personal service. The hotel entrance is always locked and visitors are greeted at the door, as a result it feels very safe as no one can just wander in. The staff are exceptionally friendly...

We only stayed for a night at Hotel Babel. The location is perfect for exploring San Telmo and even Puerto Madero. I loved the tastefully decorated lobby and in overall the adaptation of an old house into a hotel. Staff were really nice and helpful. At arrival and departure they helped us with our bags. If anything from breakfast ran...

This is only a few blocks from the Mercado and Plaza Dorrego. The front desk staff were exceptional: friendly, helpful, and informative. Our room was quiet and had a comfy king size bed. I found the historic connection (see foto of sidewalk plaque) to the Guerra Sucia a sad, but interesting, reminder. We would definitely consider this hotel if we...

We spend 2 nights at Hotel Babel. The room was nice, a little loud, but that's ok for the centre of a big town. At the day of our departure we had problems with our flight and Ra - a new guy at the reception - helped us a lot by calling the south american airline, because they didn't speak...

I have to admit that my first impression of this hotel, arriving late at night, wasn't overwhelmingly positive. However, with daylight and a necessary room change due to a missing air con remote, I found its charm. It is indeed an older building with character. The rooms have some nice shelving which is helpful in controlling luggage explosions. There was...

Comfortable place in a great location. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating and the rooms were clean and tidy. Definitely a good option if you're looking for a stay in San Telmo! They provide a basic breakfast, good reliable wifi.

Staying in San Telmo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.
