Just back from our second trip to Derwent House and decided to get my finger out and write a review (first time for everything!). Can't really add much to the praise already heaped on this wonderful hotel by others, except to say that it is all true (and we have been twice so it's no fluke!). Carol and Jo have...

A fantastic small hotel in a great area; we didn't want to leave. The house is thoughtfully laid out and tastefully decorated, with truly welcoming common rooms. A wood-burning fire is kept going in the lounge area and several comfortable sitting areas make it possible for hotel guests to sit and relax without being squashed together. We spent all our...

This place is an absolute gem. Carol and Jo are perfect hostesses. Unfortunately due to my mistake we were only able to stay 1 night. When we arrived a day earlier than I had booked, Carol managed to find us alternative suitable accomodation for the night as they were full and it was just across the road so a disaster...

I can say without hesitation that the Derwent House is the best-run guest house I have ever stayed in, and it easily rates higher for me than any five star hotel. We had read the positive reviews of the Derwent House before our trip and felt confident that it would be nice, but we really had no idea how much...

Simply MAGNIFICENT! The charming contemporary setting together with the superb (and lovely and gracious and unmatched) service is something you might have experienced somewhere else. The unexpected touches - I am tempted to list them but I won't so you can enjoy them the way we did -, Jo genuine care, Carol amazing advises - that tantalized first and pleased...

My wife and I have recently returned from staying in Derwent House in Cape Town and can now totally appreciate why Derwent house is ranked so highly by tripadvisor reviewers. In writing this review, it is important to stress that it rained for 4 out of the 5 days whilst we stayed in Cape Town (freak weather, just our luck!),...

Stayed here on a brief trip to Capetown as part of a longer holiday in SA. Location is great - just over the hill from Camps Bay - so good for access to both that or the city side. The hotel itself was very nicely done, with a large open plan dining/lounge area that opens out onto the pool, all...

We can only describe the service by the whole friendly Derwent House Team as 'par excellence'. Nothing was too much trouble from the minute we arrived until the hour we departed. Taxis, trips, recommendations for eating out and places to visit were all part of the service. Where else would you have delivered to your room every night a scroll...

Our stay at the Derwent House was very enjoyable. I would come straight back here on my next trip to Cape Town. Carol and Jo were superb hosts, arranging everything from transport, restaurants to abseiling. They know Cape Town very well and subsequently are able to give you up-to-date information on what to do and see. The house is immaculate...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In a city renowned for hospitality, Derwent House stands out as one of Cape Town's leading boutique guesthouses. Located in the heart of the vibrant Tamboerskloof/Gardens neighbourhood, this small hotel combines historic charm, contemporary Afro-chic style and all mod-cons for a uniquely Capetonian blend of ambience, warmth, and comfort. Our wonderful team completes the picture -- we go the extra mile for you and our guests leave as friends. We love colour and celebrate African design - you'll find it everywhere. But when it comes to the basics - like breakfast, bedding, showers, climate control, Wi-fi or news from home - we don't compromise so you don't have to. At Derwent House, you're steps away from the hustle and buzz of Kloof Street, with its collection of superb restaurants, bars and trendy boutiques--and just a few further to the nightlife hub of Bree and Long Streets. Yet just a short car journey from the Table Mountain cable car, the beaches of Clifton or Camp's Bay, and the V&A Waterfront. There's nowhere more central -- but come and see for yourself. We're waiting for you! ... more   less
