Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

A splendid Edwardian private house now a fabulous guesthouse set in a lovely suburb of Cape Town this is a wonderful place to stay. The moment you arrive you are made to feel welcome and at home. The rooms are spacious, stylish and extremely comfortable. Breakfast is a real treat with a selection of freshly cooked food alongside the usual cereal, fruit etc. The staff are charming and helpful especially Miko. The property is in walking distance of Company’s Garden and some of the main Cape Town attractions - but if you don’t feel like walking Uber taxis are plentiful, reliable and extremely good value. For our first ever experience of South Africa this set the tone for an amazing trip.

Great Victorian-style house, unique view over the city, directly below Table Mountain. Very friendly, courteous and personal service with great suggestions for things to do. It was my second time there and I'm already looking forward to the next time.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Abbey Manor Guest House recently. The service was good and very friendly indeed and breakfast and accommodation was good.my wife and I enjoyed our stay but thought that there could be a bit of upgrading required, otherwise we would have given this Guest House five stars.

This was our initial accommodation on our first time in South Africa. Dirk and his amazing team have made everything perfect. Starting with arranging a taxi pick up from the airport to helping with suggestions of tours/activities/restaurants Etc. Nothing is too much trouble. The breakfasts are extremely good. We are sorry to leave here and hope that our other accommodation on this trip is as good but it’s a very high bar to reach. I would totally recommend Abbey Manor to anyone wishing to visit Cape Town.

I had a conference in Cape Town to attend (specifically, at Stellenbosch Business School), and was looking for an upscale and cozy place to relax for my first night before the start of the conference. I had never been to Cape Town before, but Abbey Manor looked pretty in the pictures, and it was affordably priced ($125 total, including tax) with glowing guest reviews, so I decided to roll the dice on it. Anja contacted me 7-10 days before my stay to ask what time I'd arrive, I suppose to ensure that somebody on staff would be extra prepared to welcome me on that Saturday. It took about $15 via Uber to get from Cape Town International Airport to Abbey Manor. The front entrance is gated, so you have to either have a key or ring the doorbell to be buzzed in. The caretakers, including Anja and Miko, are all really super-kind. First impression was: Abbey Manor is a lovely place; the entire Manor is actually (even) better looking than what the pictures show. If you are looking for a super-cozy super-secure/safe quiet place only about 10-12 minute drive away from the wharf (in early afternoon, about USD 6 to get from Abbey to wharf via Uber), this is a great option. I booked one of the "Luxury Rooms" on Agoda, and upon check-in, Miko told me that my room was in "the cottage", which in this case was a small self-standing one-room building adjacent to the main building, with its own en-suite bathroom. On the way into this cottage, just within a few feet of its private personal entrance was a pergola, with its own bench and coffee table and dinette set. This cottage itself has a small fridge, a very capable air conditioner, and electronically locking glass doors. The cozyness of the cottage's room does come at a small price though: there was no desk. (It's possible that there are other rooms in the Manor with desks!) Actually, there's a really wonderful sitting room in the 'lobby' of the main building, so if you must work, then you could always go there. I was in town for a conference, and mainly just came back to Abbey Manor to sleep. So, no problem for me. Breakfast was really special. They have tables inside and also outdoors. There is a buffet of cereal/breads/juice, and then you can also order one entree from a fairly extensive menu. I got the English Breakfast, and it was delicious, filling, and very well-prepared. The pool looked really nice and clean but I didn't have time during my stay to try it out. There are a handful of sunbeds poolside to lay out in the sun too. I travel extensively and I'm a top-tier member of all the different hotel chains (e.g. Marriott/IHG/Hilton/Hyatt). ~97% of those hotels won't have the character that this Abbey Manor has. If you want a relaxing, safe stay and you're OK with the location, this place is very affordably priced and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here. The way that the staff treat guests basically like VIP's, it really does feel like a home away from home. My thanks to Ms Anja (and her daughter) and Mr Miko for their truly wondrous hospitality. The ratings and reviews and fame :-) are not only legit but also very highly well-deserved.

I have a wonderful time at Abbey Manor. This wasn't my first stay, I am a return visitor. I enjoy breakfast in the beautiful garden setting and a dip in the swimming pool. Staff are always knowledgeable and helpful. As a single traveller, I feel safe and supported in this peaceful location.

We spent three nights in Abby Manor and had a wonderful stay. It is a type of boutique hotel with a unique charm, and worth its weight in gold. This is the type of place if want a romantic setting, special occasion, or just to treat yourself to a little down time next to the wonderful garden and pool, which has a wonderful set up. The owner Dirk knows the area very well and even lived in Munich, Germany for some time and his wife if from the German part of Belgium I believe. He knows about all of the hikes and difficult routes, such as the India Venter Trail which is a bouldering type of route. He is also very knowledgable about the South Africa, and has a great team working with him. The customer service was one of the best. Everyone was very down to earth and fun to be around. Abby Manor also has a wonderful breakfast with omelettes, french toast and a buffet. The neighborhood is also is in a very good place, and there is a hip bakery on the corner very close by that even has meals. There are also great Italian restaurants and places to within a walking distance. South Africa has a lot to offer and I wish more people would travel here. It is definaltely under marketed. Even though it has many political problems, there is so much potential.

My stay at the guesthouse was very nice. Where should I even begin? I was lovingly welcomed right upon arrival. The staff was great and catered to individual wishes. The room was very spacious and clean. The breakfast was also special, and here too, individual preferences were accommodated. The entire house has a special charm, and I felt very comfortable.
