Detailed Reviews
I had the pleasure of staying at the Belmond for 3 nights. The best way to describe this hotel is old world meets new world. It has all the modern amenities with that you expect from a 5 star hotel, but that old world feel with lots of history. The one thing that I also really enjoyed was the level of service without all the nickel and diming that you will get from other hotels. Valet parking and breakfast were both included in the rate and I really felt like I got what I paid for with the entire experience.
Location: The hotel is located in the Garderns area. I knew nothing about Cape Town before arriving, but this is very central. Basically just a short drive to any place you need to go in the city, and very central (walking distance) to some great restaurants. I had been torn to stay at V&A waterfront, but that's basically just a shopping mall with some restaurants, so I'm glad I stayed here instead.
Rooms: The rooms are outfitted with high quality linens and the largest towels you've seen! It was quiet and comfortable. Servicing of the rooms were equally as good with turn down service each evening, but you need to bring your own chocolate for the pillow (only water is included!)
Property: The property itself is basically an oasis in the middle of a bustling city. Once you enter into the gated grounds you feel like you left the city and walked into someones private estate with beautiful flowers and decor everywhere. It's prime for a Instagram like landscape.
Restaurants \ Bar: I was only able to enjoy the complimentary breakfast at Oasis and the food was on par with everything else from high quality fresh juice to custom egg station and tasty pastries. The bar called Planet was very uniquely designed with a wonderful staff and relaxed environment. I didn't have time to enjoy the high tea on the patio area, but looked fantastic.

During these challenging Coronavirus Covid-19 times which are disrupting all our lives, my mind wanders back to happy days spent this year in January and February and in also in previous years at the Mount Nelson Hotel where the friendly welcome makes one relax as soon as one walks through the doors. The hotel becomes a soothing home from home. The timeless decor which includes tasteful modern art and the generously proportioned rooms make it a most pleasant base for long or short stays. The hotel's location is perfect for exploring Cape Town be it for shopping, sight seeing or exploring yet is also a peaceful retreat to switch off from the hassle and bustle of every day life. Attention to detail such as one's favourite tea at breakfast or wine at dinner is noticed by attentive staff. In its peaceful setting, the hotel provides excellent facilities including two pools, a spacious and well appointed gym, a beautician's, an excellent hairdresser's and two very good shops. My personal favourite are the tennis courts: tennis lessons with the outstanding coach Barkie McKrea have been the highlight of my holidays and are highly recommended.

What a fabulous place - our gracious room was comfortable and beautiful with a huge bathroom, the grounds and gardens are a delight and the whole place exuded charm and elegance. What made it really special was the people - welcoming and friendly and experts in their city. Nothing was too much trouble, restaurant tables were magically available, transport arranged and advice given. The adult pool was lovely and always quiet. We were celebrating my husband's birthday so received complimentary bubbly and sweets. We will definitely go back if we pass this way again. A final thoughtful touch was two little tubes of hand sanitiser which we've been carefully guarding as it is impossible to get this anywhere else in the world right now!

Firstly, amid all the glittering chandeliers, the clink of silverware, and demure uniformed attendants, is pristine hygiene and safety protocols at the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel.
Truly, this Afternoon Tea could be worth it on the simple merit of the fresh and flavoursome cuisine, that balances a wonderful dining experience in tandem with teas so rich in aroma and provenance, alone! Luckily, the Afternoon Tea is worth it on so many levels:
There is tasteful splendour in the tiered cuisine and indulgent service - the waitrons commendably servicing guests.
The Afternoon Tea at Mount Nelson, begins as tradition demands: with quintessential and prestige blend tea choices. I highly recommend trying the rather fantastic house-blend Mount Nelson tea.
On the finger foods: I thoroughly enjoyed the fresh and warm scones, the smoked Franschhoek Trout sandwich, as well as the Spinach and feta quiche, and sweet treats like carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.
If you need a different sort of Afternoon Tea menu, try the imaginative plant-based menus on offer.
You could be reticent in engaging people, or keen to be among the throng, and the hotels’ property will welcome you to a number of ideal picturesque settings for some good tea and welcome warmth.

We have stayed at The Mount Nelson at least five times now and it never ever disappoints. It has a wonderful charm which follows the;ugh the whole hotel from the time you arrive and greeted by the doorman, to the very helpful and polite staff, the decor and the atmosphere. The rooms are very comfortable some have been done up more re entry than others.
The hotel is very handy for shopping with Kloof Street, Bree Street and Long Street easily accessible on foot. Cape Town has literally hundreds of fantastic restaurants and many of them in close proximity to the hotel.
When the weather is hot there is no better place to lap up the sun than around the Oasis Bistro swimming pool. I like to lie in the sun and my husband likes the shade but there are plenty of places round the pool to keep us both happy.
For me, always, the highlight of my stay is having tennis lessons with Barkie MxKrea. He is awesome and so good at getting you to do things you didn’t think you were able to do, like a good serve! As well as improving my tennis the lessons are a huge amount of fun. I would recommend anyone who enjoys tennis to take their tennis racquet and have some lessons with Barkie. The tennis courts were completely resurfaced in November 2019 so are wonderful to play on.
Having asked my husband what he likes about The Mount Nelson most he said the wonderful welcome back each time snd the fact nothing is too much trouble. So many of the staff have been there since they left school and they recognise you when you return year after year. We love this hotel and look forward to going back next year.

perfect location with some deficits, especially the seat covers are always spoiled, I am wondering why obviously not too much people are complaining about this. Also the sunbeds and their covers are not cleaned daily, if not requested, it seems they are never cleaned. beautiful garden. wonderful ambience.

We recently stayed for a 4night long weekend in Feb2021 and were very impressed and cannot recommend the hotel highly enough. The staff were friendly, polite & competent and truly went out of their way to make us feel welcome and attended to.
Covid protocols seemed firmly in place and everyone was wearing their masks religiously, with hotel & restaurant guest temperatures checked and baggage disinfected on arrival. We felt very safe and did not have any covid related concerns.
The hotel was obviously not fully occupied and we receive a complementary room upgrade, which was a nice touch.
Facilities and rooms we clean, welcoming and well kept. Restaurant food was tasty & very highly quality, even if a little overpriced.
Overall we were very impressed and will definitely be returning to this wonderful property - well done to the Belmond Mt Nelson team!

We have been regulars at the Mount Nelson for the past 8 years and never cease to be delighted by the staff and their outstanding service, from the moment you arrive until you leave. But best of all is we have really gotten to know many of them very well, and so each visit for us is like a special homecoming and a treat to look forward to! The Mount Nelson is quiet discreet luxury at its best, but without feeling pretentious or snobby. Rooms in the magnificent old Victorian main building have lovely views over the beautiful gardens. Their afternoon teas are a truly wicked delight of yummy treats and an absolute must! Food and drink at the Planet Bar is delicious, and their classical champagne cocktails are fabulous. The pool area is a delightful quiet haven to escape the hustle and bustle of Cape Town. Hotel location is very convenient, close to the airport, V&A Waterfront, buzzing Camps Bay and anywhere else on the peninsula. It doesn't get better than the Nellie in Cape Town, and we'll be back again next year!

We loved every moment.
We spent four delightful days at this wonderful hotel. We stayed in a deluxe room overlooking the beautiful gardens and pool. The room was spacious, beautifully furnished and the bed linen first class.
Having visited other hotels in both Camps Bay and the V&A Waterfront we felt that the Mount Nelson had the ideal combination of location, luxury and outdoor space.
We did not need a car whilst staying at the hotel, but instead used Ubers which were reasonably priced and very reliable. Many excellent restaurants were within five or ten minutes drive.
We enjoyed the main pool (not school holiday time) so a wonderful selection of shady or sunny spots to choose from with ample palm trees and parasols.
The loungers were very comfortable and there were plenty of clean fresh towels.
Breakfast was a super selection of fruit, cereals, breads and pastries plus excellent hot dishes too.
However the most outstanding point about the hotel was the wonderful service from each and every member of staff.
They could not have been more friendly and efficient.
Genuinely outstanding service.

Very good hotel, but also expensive. The hotel is in the center of the mountain. I could see it directly from Table Mountain. Our room was huge. We arrived a bit early and our rooms were not ready, so we were taken to the Oasis restaurant and sat on the terrace overlooking the pool for a buffet breakfast until the rooms became available. The service was excellent.
