We reserved a room w/ shared bathroom for New Year's Eve as we thought that the ambiance for a backpacker hostel would be great. We ended up being alone in the hostel so not much of a party ;) Anyhow, the hostel is pretty basic, with great communal area, the room was super clean with fan, in the backyard of...

We were a couple from Joburg wanting to backpack around Sabie and Hazyview earlier this year close to the Easter break. We came across this property on the net and after a few email interactions with Dennis - we were all set. On reaching we were directed to our cozy little camp site. We fell in love with the place...

Visited with a tour group and camped here The shower and toilet facilities were pretty basic and no one enjoys see through shower curtains! The dinner and dance we had in the evening though was really good and a great way to finish our trip. The food was average but the entertainment around the fire was great. Good to experience...

The facilities include an upscale lodge offering ensuite rooms and meals and a basic backpacker accommodation with dorm beds (R 165) and camp sites (R 100). At the backpackers is large well equipped communal kitchen, an outdoor braai area and a small bar. The biggest drawback is the lack of any kind of transport even to/from the bus station in...

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review and we hope you enjoyed your stay. We do agree that the Public Transport is a problem, but we can always organise a transfer if requested! Unfortunately we as the owners / managers are not allowed to transfer Guests :-( ( it is not that we don't want...

In Mpumalang, near the Kruger Park, this is the place to stay when on budget. The staff are fantastic and look after one without any trouble. I had to be up at 4am and the Manager came personally and made sure I was up and ready for my transport.. It is set in a beautiful forest just outside Hazyview, surrounded...

Gecko Backpackers offers good hospitality along with affordable accommodation despite being just 40-50 km away from Kruger National Park and Graskop like tourist destinations. If you are someone who is not looking for luxury rather need an accommodation for the couple of hours after tiring day with common Kitchen like facility then it's a great place. Amid forest like area...

Great backpackers with amazing service - even for the latecomers (we arrived in late night). A little bit tricky path to get there - that was the only tricky part. We were actually camping, when the great storm came - and guy in charge let us move into dorm without any charge! Nice and friendly - recommended!

I arrived late, tired and in a rainstorm to Gecko Backpackers in November 2015... but soon I was feeling 100% better with 'new friends' -- both travelers and the manager Dennis --all enjoying an evening playing a game of 4-2-1. Dennis goes above-and-beyond to make travelers feel comfortable, and to be sure their next leg of their journey is all...
