At a fraction of the price of Camps outside Kruger you can stay here on the banks of a river, which id dammed so that there is water even at the end of the dry season. It is remote, but that is also its attraction. Loads of birdlife, and animals coming to drink. We were lucky enough to see two...

Shimuwini is certainly atmospheric, but the location was a little out-of-the-way and didn't feature great wildlife sightings. Our unit (we paid for a one-bedroom, but actually got 2 bedrooms) was comfortable enough, but the lack of any power plug was inconvenient (no way to recharge any electronics, like camera battery). We also didn't enjoy our outdoor kitchen/dining area being visited...

Very comfortable cottages located in a fenced environment with river views. Lots of space so all have good views and are quite private. The best mix between the small wilderness camps and the large commercial hubs. Cottages are well kitted out with a large covered but open dining room. Stay more then one night to really appreciate this great location.

Layout to the camp is perfect, from all bungalows you a great view on the Letaba river. Fact is, the bungalows are not as clean as in other bushcamps. Fact is, the refrigators in the bungalows should have been replaced years ago. They must be 30 years old or so. They still refrigate allright, however the noise is horrible and...

We spent three days and 4 nights at Shimuwini last week. We stayed in no 7. All cottages have a view of the Letaba and there are great birds visiting the trees in front of the cottages. We also saw plenty hippos, crocs, waterbuck, elephant and buffalo in and at the water's edge. The bungalow has good beds but is...

Regular visitor for an overnight stay - this year cottage number 12 with a lovely view. Reception very friendly and check in no problem. Bedding & towels fresh and amenities clean and night was quiet punctuated by hippo's in the river and Hyena's chattering away whilst hunting. Self catering with only a fridge & hotplate and utensils, but communal freezer...

Great place to relax. We booked a 2 room cottage, one room with 2 single beds and 1 with 3 single beds. The kitchen is contained within the building and you have a great outside dining area and BBQ spot. Some of the smaller units have the kitchen outside too, so you need to be even more careful storing your...

We loved this place, it is remote and has a limited amount of places to stay, very quiet. The only available thing here to buy is ice, so make sure you shop and stock up before you arrive. Also there are no plug sockets, only one for the fridge/freezer. we loved the remoteness of it and saw many beautiful birds...

We stayed as a group of six in no. 15 house after a long trip from home in Geneva. What a beautiful sight in front of the Letaba river, with the hippo pod giving it's best entertainment. The camp is quiet and exclusive, well maintained with friendly and efficient staff (thanks Busi). Nice drives along the river and up to...

First off note this camp has no electrical power outlets, lights run off solar and the camp has a generator to supply the fridge (no freezer) and geyser in your house. The staff were happy to charge our phones in the office and there are communal freezers available. You can see from the above that this is a basic camp....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Shimuwini is a Shangaan word for "Place of the Baobab Tree". The camp is so named because the nearby Letaba River which fronts the cottages, is lined with these huge trees, one of them estimated to be between 2 000 and 3 000 years old. Shimuwini Bushveld Camp is the most modern of the bushveld camps, being completely rebuilt after the floods in 2 000. ... more   less
