This backpackers is beautifully situated and is really well equipped. It truly doesn't feel as though you are staying in a backpackers but rather a Lodge in the mountains. the staff are friendly and the upkeep of the place is very consistent. The ladies showers opposite deluxe room 28 could be cleaner but everything else was fantastic.

On arrival following check in we were introduced to a lady to talk about tours. I asked about Lesotho only to be told that it wasn't worth visiting for one day and was quite distance away. We were subsequently told about the next day's day trip to Lesotho (?!). The lady seemed completely disinterested in talking to us about anything...

We were 3 adults in our early 30's staying here for two nights. The rooms were very hippie and cute, with a small outdoor area, and a kitchen directly across from us. We chose a basic room rather than then superior (which has a mountain view) and if our room was great - I'm super the others were too!!! The...

We arrived by Baz bus, we were aware from previous reviews that they are pushy about their tours so we had already decided that we would not go on the tours. We checked in, but were not shown to our accommodation until we had signed up to a tour or explained why we didn't want to go on a tour....

This place is really quite lovely. It is very basic accommodation but it is perfectly adequate. Peaceful and beautiful. Even the food was quite delicious. The customer service is a disaster. From the moment we checked in, we waited an age while tbe reception lady was on the phone. She didnt acknowledge us so we didn't realise she was even...

I stayed here several nights and loved it. No problems at all. I can tell that the staff cares about their little add-ons (the tours, the food, the shop,) but they were absolutely not pushy about it at all.. to me. But I came in prepared and aware. They told me they recommended I not do the guided hikes alone,...

Wow what an incredible experience. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The venue is fun and interesting. Food was great and cater for vegetarians. Met incredible people from all over the world. A true reflection of nations getting along at one incredible venue.

Nice and funny infrastructure, location with beautiful view on the drakensberg ridge. Double room and dinner are fine. Good starting point to reach the royal natal national park where the amphitheatre is. (30 minutes driving) For more information on hikes, go to the park entrance where you can find maps and full advice from local guides. Plenty of hikes are...

I stopped counting after my 30th visit to this place. 95% of my visits was in my tent. Its the biggest campsite of any backpackers I have ever been to. During the rainy season you can camp on long soft green grass with loads of trees to pick. Some spots with a power points. The location is just mind blowing....

During the past few months there has been a number of negative reviews about this place that I believe is completely unnecessary. I've stayed here for a week and it was the perfect place to relax and unwind after a stressful year at work. This is definitely the most well organized set up in the whole country. The owners and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The venue is really amazing. The lodge is found on a stunning 300 hectares of land near the foot of the Amphitheatre (Royal Natal National Park) and Cathedral Peak. The Mpande River weaves through the lands. There are buck, small mammals and a fantastic array of wild birds near the 2 dams and a picture postcard view from the lawn, a 360 degree panorama that takes in the entire Northern range from the Amphitheatre all the way to Cathkin Peak. The lodge is a base from which you can explore different sections and all the highlights of the Drakensberg Park each day. Built from stone, thatch and wood, the place is like an artist's sculpture with stained glass, metal and wooden carvings, mosaics and beautiful indigenous rockeries. ... more   less
