A lovely hotel with friendly staff in a wonderful central location in Pietermaritzburg. My room was excellent and I loved the breakfast. Just a shame the wifi is limited just to reception but I recommend it as a great place to stay.

My stay at the Protea Hotel Imperial surprised me in so many ways. This little beaut has so much history and classiness. Everything from the historical pictures on the walls to the 137 year old floors and elevator is just such a great experience. The staff and management are so friendly and nothing is ever too much of an effort...

A group of us recently stayed at the Protea Imperial Hotel on business. I can only say that we will never visit the hotel again. Restaurant service was poor, the availability of basic drinks left much to be desired and ordering food from the a la carte menu was a challenge to say the least. Some dishes offered were not...

I find the rooms in this hotel comfortable and generally clean. The corridors look grubby and may put you off but the rooms are OK. Breakfast is prepared to a corporate menu but little effort is made to keep food moist, fresh looking etc. Had to ask for marmalade which was produced almost frozen from somewhere.

The hotel is very neat and tidy. The staff, who are always polite and friendly, are always willing to assist you in any way possible. The highlight of the training was certainly the scrumptious meals we were provided with. Great hotel indeed!

My son was playing rugby in Pietermaritzburg and so we decided to travel down and support him. I booked through venere.com (I knew another family staying at the same hotel) and paid online. On arrival I was asked to pay for the room and asked them to check their records as I had paid when booking on line. I was...

I visited the hotel on a business trip. In the heart of the CBD. Quite noisy in some rooms. Food were average. Not great. Can improve. Wines overpriced but so is wines everywhere in Natal. The single room is just to small for the price you pay. Buffet is dull rather order from set menu.
