We stayed at this lodged as part of a birding trip. It was extremely hot when we arrived and were glad of the air conditioning in the room. The swimming pool, whilst small, was also greatly appreciated. It is a bit of a mission getting large bags to the room along the little sand track to the rooms. The rooms...

Hi Duncan, thanks very much for taking the time to review Umkhumbi. We really appreciate it. Just a note to readers: WiFi is available at the reception area and is free. Staff are on hand to transport your bags between the parking area and your room.

Umkhumbi Lodge is superb, Comfortable spacious rooms, plenty of delicious food prepared and served by very friendly staff on a balcony overlooking amazing views of the bush, where a cold beer was also served after a full day exploring. Our hosts Anton and Emma, and our guide Gareth (aka Ranger Dave) were so welcoming and arranged the perfect itinerary. From...

I have been to many places in search for snakes and extreme wildlife, and we came across Umkhumbi Lodge! These guys are the best! Gareth and Anton are just top notch! The place is unique. What ever you would like to see these guys make it happen! Of course you can't predict what the wildlife will do but every night...

Welcoming, friendly staff; the atmosphere seemed like a quiet, relaxing, forest getaway. Their meals prepared, especially dinners, were always different & delicious!! The location of Umkhumbi was central in North KZN, allowing for us to explore a different area every day, visiting St Lucia, Hluhluwe, Sodwana Bay, Jozini dam & Pongola during our 4-day stay!

Our family of 12 (3 families with 2 kids each) had the time of our lives at Umkhumbi. Not fancy, but warm, friendly, comfortable accommodations. Helpful, caring, cool staff. And the food....We are a difficult bunch to feed- some are gluten free, we have picky kids, always a tough group to please-and they nailed it! Went way out of their...

Our family of 12 stayed with here for 7 nights. Anton and Emma built us a ridiculously fun itinerary that included the safari & wetland parks as well as a 2 night stay at their other property near Kosi Bay. The staff, service & food were top notch. The mid tier accommodations where exactly what we wanted; clean, spacious and...

My husband and I traveled to Hluhluwe and stayed at Umkhumbi for 2 nights. The rooms are neat and clean (no wifi but you don't go to the bush for internet). The staff were amazing, and warm all round; especially with Ntombi (the waitress) being such a delight at dinner. Lara was helpful in welcoming us, Adam shared in his...

Problem with this lodge is that its not inside a game reserve. You have to drive to one (closest is 30minutes away) and unless you booked a gamedrive in advance, you are on your own with this.... Good qualities: very friendly staff, large clean rooms conveniently located to varieties of game reserves and St Lucia wetlands, aircon that works in...

Many thanks for your review of both the things you liked and those you didn’t, I just want to make a few comments: We are on a 20Ha nature reserve with walking trails and lots of small game species including Nyala, Duiker, Suni and Serval and Bushbabies. There are no game drives on the property but we are happy to...

Anton's Umkhumbi lodge is a hidden away gem in South Africa. Your private bungalow room on a private reserve, tucked away in the trees, is the definition of peace and tranquilly. Lodge owner Anton Roberts has a well set up game plan for seeing everything from this spot. From Hluhluwe-mfolozi game reserve (Which is an awesome place to see wild...

I had the pleasure of visiting Umkhumbi lodge this December. The layout and set up is just perfect, giving you feel of the bush without being a inconvenience. The company and food was top notch, and help from our hosts were great to make it a very memorable stay. We are planning our return already.
