I have just been reading the reviews for this fabulous guest house. I am sat here in sunny Lanzarote, reminiscing about my wonderful stay in January 2006, and wish I was planning another trip and stay with the wonderful host and owner Mike. I was visiting wonderful South Africa for the first time on my own, and Mike really looked...

We stayed at this guesthouse some time ago. Supposed to be 5* rated, but I think the owners must've bribed someone for that rating! The place was filthy (they never changed the linen in over a week!), and looked absolutely NOTHING like their website pictures. They advertise clawfoot bathtubs on their site, but the one room only has a shower...

I had the pleasure of staying at 164 for the entirety of a nine-week business trip. The guest house is beautiful, the staff courteous and attentive, and the owner proved to be an excellent host. My trip started with the airline delaying my luggage, and the owner offered to drive me to a nearby shopping mall to buy clothes (an...

I booked five work colleagues in over a two-week period - some of them international - all of them liked the venue but none of them enjoyed the experience ... the manager / owner is rigid and blunt and seems to make up rules as he goes along - the tone and manner in which this is enforced makes for...

This was perhaps the most appalling service i have ever experienced.I originally booked for a week requesting specifically a quiet room, as this was a business trip. My room was placed over the bar and very noisy. I was advised that a change of room was not possible. The 'owner' barged into my room and shut the door behind him,...

I have stayed in 164 a number of times. I travel excessively for business purposes and there is nothing worse than to be away from home. I am at the point now where I look forward to going to Durban. 164 has become my home-away-from-home! The hospitality and comfort at 164 Guesthouse is out of this world (and I have...

We stayed at 164 Guesthouse for (unfortunately) just 1 night while visiting relatives nearby. We chose it for proximity to Musgrave/Berea (near our family), and to avoid large city centre or shabby beachfront hotels. What a great decision it was! The guesthouse is a magnificent character-filled building, furnished immaculately in every way, yet with a real home-from-home feel, all be...

Between August 13th-22nd, 2007, I stayed in the Zulu Room at 164 Boutique Guesthouse in Durban, South Africa. The five star guest house is in the Edwardian era Musgrave district of Durban, which is green, historiic, and lively (without being loud or ihn any way uncomfortable). In terms of sheer pampering, this hotel is a remarkable opportunity to enjoy the...

Just returned from a 2 night stay at this property and had a wonderful experience. Our room faced the garden and pool and was very comfortable and nicely decorated. The main house was also well decorated and very comfortable. The guesthouse is situated in a quiet and safe neighborhood in Durban with the most friendly dogs you'll ever meet! And...

164 is truly an outstanding guesthouse, located in a very nice residential area of Durban. We spent 7 days there in December 2006 and already have plans to return in 2008. The house is warm and inviting and the bedrooms are beautifully decorated with all amenties. Colin Farrell, the movie star, had been a previous guest and had stayed in...
