Very eccentric new owners who are trying their best to impress but seems long on initiative yet short on capital. Despite best of charm Room was damp and noisy and although Breakfast made up for it one still can't recommend or risk visiting in near future.

The new chef has revamped the menu and that means that now 137 has the best burgers in town (hands down), the chicken is also good :) The best time to go is brunch / lunchtime, the service is friendly and there are rumours that the decor will become a lot more alternative soon.

I had three nights with my son in grahamstown and we were looking for somewhere to have a good meal (it was a cold night! We wanted something warming and did not want another pub meal). The food was good, interesting and creative and the fireplace was a real win. I did not stay over as I was unaware of...

The inn is very old and charming, and management clearly makes an effort to keep it clean and comfortable. The food is good as well, as is the reliable wifi. However, customer service is patchy - sometimes there are no staff to provide assistance - such as during check out early in the morning. That said, I would still go...

One star would certainly flatter this pigsty. Everything you touch is tatty. The only reason we stayed was that payment was demanded upfront, 6 months in advance. This is exploitation on another level, only because the opportunity is there with the Grahamstown festival. To charge R 1500 for the room per day is daylight robbery. This place is not worth...

Amazing festival! Freezing day. Stopped at the 137 High Street restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed the warm fireplace and hearty food. Very busy but all seemed under control. I love the old building and the floors were really beautiful. The place is also really well positioned. Would have no hesitation to recommend.

This inn is very conveniently located right across the main entrance to Rhodes Univ, so it's a great option if you have business at Rhodes. But, there are no staff on site, so if you arrive late or want to check out early, this is very problematic. The rooms are small, and kind of sub-par (acceptable, but nothing noteworthy). You...

The hours are standard for a guest house, it is only hotels that provide 24 hour service and if you arrive after hours (before 7:30am or after 9:30pm) all you need to do is contact our manager on the cell number on the sign outside a few minutes before arriving so you don’t even have to wait outside. If you...

Having passed through Grahamstown a few years ago and visited this hotel just for lunch we decided to stay for 3 nights on this occasion. The establishment must have changed hands during the intervening period. Plus points:- 1.Central location - close to Rhodes University 2.Secure parking in gated private courtyard 3.Large comfortable bed 4.Free Wi-Fi internet Minus points:- 1.This was...

Firstly I would like to say that it would have been helpful to hear this at the time it happened so it could have been dealt with then. I was not even aware this website had any reviews about 137 until a guest told me about it. I have long since removed the conditions from my check-in form. The staff...
