We went to a rooftop wedding near Maboneng and wisely decided to stay over in Johannesburg and ubered back and forth. My friend booked at the Devonshire in Braamfontein - it was a mistake. :-( it provided safe parking , lovely friendly great staff , a good hearty breakfast , clean bedding , but that was all. I wonder why...

I have known the Devonshire hotel in Johannesburg for quite some time, knowing of it's rich history back in the day. It's a beautiful old hotel that is quaint and simplistic. The Bar upstairs with the baby grand piano makes for a great ambiance.

Set in downtown Braamfontein, the Devonshire is a decent easily accessible hotel that is also a more affordable alternative, especially for groups that need a comfortable and convenient conference venue. Stayed here for two nights as part of a group of Americans touring South Africa. The rooms were clean, but that's possibly the only positive thing I can say about the Devonshire. The place is in tatters and although it's supposedly being remodeled, inoperable elevators, a mediocre restaurant, and even a front door that could barely be opened are inexcusable....
