#8 of 9 Speciality lodging in Benson
Indulge your Wild West fantasies near the Benson KOA, in a quiet, high desert valley just 1 mile off I-10 Exit 304. Benson is the gateway to Tombstone, Bisbee, Kartchner Caverns and Chiricahua National Monument. Apache Chief Cochise's stronghold is nearby. Tombstone hosts daily re-creations of the infamous O.K. Corral shoot-out. Tour an old copper mine near the Mexican border in Bisbee, where steep hillside streets and Victorian buildings evoke the mining boom days. Tour Kartchner Caverns and drive or hike past weirdly shaped rock formations in the Chiricahua Mountains. Pool: April 15 - Oct. 15. Max pull thru: 80 feet. Your hosts: Kim and Choi.

This campground is pretty much just like you would expect a KOA in the 50's. Bugs in the bath house, grounds not well maintained, there were only 4 other campers there out of 50 sites, and it felt creepy. The pad was gravel and mostly weeds growing through the gravel. Would not recommend.

This KOA is under renovation. The front is almost complete. The back where we stayed with out 26’ tt is another story. The sites are very close together, cable is spliced and we decided to just use our satellite instead. There is nothing to do here but lots nearby. The new section in the front is going to be super close together based on the location of the electric panels. The road into this KOA is dirt but not potholed as previously reviewed. Not bad. We went to Tombstone which is just about 20 miles away. The city of Benson has lots from Walmart to restaurants.

Very quiet campground. 24 miles from Tombstone AZ. Country setting. Easy hook ups. Easy to maneuver for big rigs. Pet friendly with lots of quiet walking. Wish we stayed longer. Large pool. Playground for the kids.

Apparently they are new owners. Larry and his wife very friendly and welcoming. But the sites are close together and some of the sites aren’t big rig friendly. The main road off I-10 and the road the campground is on is very rough and full of pot holes. Is ok for over night or two but can’t image any longer.

Starting off on a good note, the staff are friendly, the sites are ample and the scenery is beautiful. The poor rating is because WiFi is terrible, cable is very poor with snow on a TV that never has snow, water pressure is weak and pops from air. If your RV and tow car are clean, by the end of the first day you will be covered with sandy dust. The road leading to the entrance and all the roads within are dusty gravel with many potholes. Benson KOA is right in the desert and this is understood, but just a forewarning if you’re OCD about your vehicle. This KOA is less glamming, more camping.
