Just about the only choice. Basic room above the village store. No tea making facilities, no breakfast, and over priced for what we got. It was clean and had a fridge and microwave which meant you had to buy in the owners shop. Staff were friendly and I suppose our main gripe was the price at $139 per night. We... More

As Whittier is not really a touristic destination, don't expect it to be full of hostel and hotel. We stayed in the Anchor Inn and the price was of 120 dollars a night. The room was more than acceptable and it feels great to have a bath! Do try to bargain the price of the night, it worked for us... More

Beds and room were adequate, staff were friendly and pleasant. Trying to travel on a "budget" which is a challenge in alaska. The hotel in next to the rr tracks in old industrial part of town. Heavy, unpleasant and persistent diesel smell in room. No ventilation, no fan, and the one functioning window had a screen that didn't fit allowing... More

If you are looking for the Ritz Carlton in Whittier you are out of luck. Sight unseen we reserved a room at the Anchor Inn in Whittier. The accommodations were in an old military post dating from the Cold War Era. Downstairs there is a small store and aneven smaller museum. Check in is across the street in the upstairs... More

I stayed in a double queen room that faced the water. Due to the location of the hotel, you look across the railroad yard towards the water. The room is sparsely appointed, but it did have a flat screen TV, a small fridge and microwave. The shower was capable of scalding, extremely hot, so be careful. For the price it... More

At this time of year the Anchor Inn is the ONLY establishment open for overnight stays in Whittier. No choice is a good choice? That would be unfair to the Anchor and its Chinese proprietors. Rooms are spacious and cosy with harbour views (if you're lucky- I was) and there is a truly magnificent museum on the ground floor telling... More

We arrived in Whittier expecting to catch an evening ferry only to find the ferry delayed until 8.00am next morning. As a result there was a mad scramble for accommodation. We were fortunate to get a room at this Inn at what we considered a reasonable price. There was a Shuttle to and from the ferry which was good .The... More

We didn't actually stay at the motel but at the Begich Towers where Anchor Inn rents out several condos. We stayed on the 14th floor and had a two bedroom corner unit with huge windows overlooking the busy harbor. It was so much fun to watch the boats, trains, etc come and go, load and unload. We loved watching the... More

The room was old and cramped - a hodgepodge of furniture. Couldn't get the TV to work but had internet, a hot shower and an ocean view. Was walking distance to the waterfront and a good value for Whittier. The check in was in the bar and not clearly marked. When we found only one bed when we had paid... More

My wife and I stayed one night at the Anchor Inn in Whittier in late May 2015. A number of sources we’d read gave us the impression that the Anchor Inn was a barely acceptable, low-budget place, with a lot of rough edges. This was not the case (except for the very reasonable room rate). This place does have a... More
