After returning from breakfast, I noticed I had forgotten to put away my money that was left on the table. I counted the cash and noticed the amount didn't seem correct but thought maybe I was being forgetful and not keeping track of how much I was spending. At this point I knew how much cash I had left. The cash was then stored in my backpack for the remainder of our stay(one day). After leaving the hotel and checking into our next location, I pulled out my cash again and noticed it was a lot lighter. After counting the amount, i realized $150 was missing. Now I know for sure that House keeping had been taking cash out from my stash. Becareful with this place. It is not legit.

Dear guest, We are really concerned about your comment as this is the first time we have this kind of accusation. Could you please send more details to the hotel? As we really need to investigate and verify if the money was really stolen in your room as it could have been stolen on your way to your new location, so many possibilities... Anyway, we would appreciate if you could send your room number and dates of stay to make an intern investigation. In addition, We need to precize that all our rooms are equipped with safety box to store your money, passports, jewelries... This hotel has it all for the family : spacious renovated and spotless clean rooms, beautiful calm views from the beach restaurant, pool and snooker table, good diverse menu. And most of all very friendly staff. We are hoping to go back! Maururu

Talk about ruining a longstanding relationship through extremely unethical and dishonest behaviour. I had stayed at this property two times in the past when it was a Novotel. Now it’s part of the Royal chain and I was not expecting a blatant violation of the tourism charter that this very hotel has signed with other hotels to encourage tourists to come to French Polynesia. I had to cancel my stay in September at the last minute as my country of residence imposed an impending quarantine for travellers from French Polynesia with a looming deadline of less than 72 hours. I had to buy another ticket to fly home the same day. Now the charter the hotel signed provides for emergency situations like this: customers are supposed to be offered a full credit for the amount paid or a reimbursement within 12 months maximum, the choice being the customer’s. Hotels have signed this charter so that customers don’t have to worry about losing money with last minute travel restrictions. The Royal’s reservation agent Raihere Hauata consistently refused to give me a credit for the reservation in all our email correspondence. Finally after a couple of months, I contacted a tourism official at the French high commission in Papeete, who confirmed that her response was completely illegal. I then wrote to Raihere again, sending her a copy of the charter signed by the hotel and copying the official at the high commission. It took shaming the hotel to see a change. I was then offered a full credit for a subsequent stay. I called Raihere to ask her why there was a sudden about turn when the hotel had categorically refused a credit and she said her manager had told her to refuse a credit or a reimbursement despite the charter. Great, Raihere! It’s nice to know that you do unethical and illegal things simply because your manager asks you to and while he or she hides behind your skirts! Perhaps you have a career ahead of you working for Trump? Will you rob the cash till next if your manager tells you to?!!! Still no reimbursement was offered. I had to then write back once more, with the charter yet again and the official copied another time. Neither speed nor honesty are Raihere’s forte. After another long wait when she discussed the matter with her equally dishonest boss, she said that a reimbursement could not be made before at least 18 months. This is despite the charter categorically stating a maximum delay of 12 months!!! As I already had a trip booked to the islands in December, I accepted a credit, but I was stunned by the hotel’s flagrant dishonesty even with the charter thrust in their faces and the official at the high commission copied. So buyer beware! Before you book, know that this hotel will not respect the charter it signed with other hotels to protect tourists. This is a real pity as the hotel is comfortable and offers good value. The rooms are spacious and many of them overlook a pretty garden. There is a pretty (though cold) pool and a lovely little beach. Lunch, dinner and WiFi were all very good, though the food at breakfast and the service at main meals left much to be desired as one server was by herself and ran around like a headless chicken trying to manage everyone’s orders. Don’t book here if you have the slightest possibility of needing to cancel your stay due to the virus and changing travel restrictions. The Reservations department here is blatantly dishonest and you’ll have to brace yourself for a fight.

We stayed at the Royal for 3 nights during Covid. The hotel is kept clean and masks were worn by all staff. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Small, but nice beach with decent snorkeling. My husband and I saw black tip sharks, an eagle ray and a turtle among the other fish. Location is good for walking to Mataram Beach and many restaurants in the area. Definitely would recommend to friends or others looking for a low key relaxing vacation.

When you get off the airport shuttle bus grab a cab, they will be waiting there. Always agree on the price before you get in. We played 20us, the hotel shuttle is 35us each person (that's a savings of 100us total return trip). Hotel is just o.k., room was clean and spacious, bed comfy and shower hot. Beach isn't as big/nice as shown in pictures because of renovations next door. Restaurant has good food but we did have somecwarm drinks and cold meals, breakfast buffet had a very limited selection and ridiculous price, roughly 40us each, go to town for fresh baked croissants. Bring bug spray.
