Stayed here for one night and while we loved the location and the spacious room - we couldn't help but notice the room really needed a makeover/upgrade. The staff were exceptional though so with a bit of a renovation this would quickly go from three to five star!

Greetings CSchmidtke Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Our refurbishment program has been ongoing for the past twelve years and it's still continuing to these days. You might have noticed how busy the Grosvenor is, and the challenge is to renovate the hotel room whilst the place is full to the brim most of the time....

Our room had been recently refreshed but there was a large gap under the door. We had a good meal in the restaurant with very friendly staff. I asked to borrow a hair dryer for the morning and the reception staff kindly brought it to the room. Car park across the road, was full when we arrived as there was...

Greetings Freddiemon Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us. Yes, certain rooms have large gaps under the doors. Afterall, the hotel was built in the 19th century and there wasn't a concrete floor then. Being timber floor, this is an unavoidable part of life. We plead for your understanding. We appreciate you raising two points...

Unfortunately we stayed at this hotel for 3 nights on a trip around New Zealand. We knew it was a 3 star hotel so didn’t expect The Ritz but this hotel is worse than some no star budget hotels we have stayed in. We were originally given room 203. When we got to the room we discovered that the small...

Greetings Sandra H The Grosvenor has nothing against you. For the record, I wrote here not to reply to your review but don't you think it's important for readers to get both sides of the story? Of course, we can take criticism but whether it is constructive or not is not up to you but to the readers. For whatever...

My husband and I stayed for one night on our tour of the South Island. We pulled up to ask about car parking and it was sorted in a moment. Incredibly friendly staff. They explained there was a double booking but not a problem as they had put us in a lovely room. The lift was hilarious. Our room was...

Greetings Donna-Marie L Thank you wholeheartedly for your good sense of humour, your positivity and seeing joy in all situations. Wouldn't it be nice if all guests are as nice and as humane as you folks are? The room that you referred to happened to be our King Suite Room 215. Yes, you have been upgraded because you are simply...

After booking a late check in and muddling up my dates- the day I booked for was actually incorrect. The staff here were AMAZING, they got out of bed (4am!!) and found us a room with no hassle at all. The room was recently renovated and was a pleasure for a nights stay. We cannot thank the staff enough for...

Lots of history to the hotel and we had a fun and comfortable stay. Room we had was nice (felt like student digs - no bad thing!) and staff were friendly. Lift was a blast from the past - manual sliding doors and grills!

55 years ago I was a regular at the Grosvenor. I think I just made my last visit. We were looking for somewhere to stay a couple of nights in Timaru. We chose the Grosvenor at about $95 a night. A friendly greeting on arrival. Processed efficiently. Went to the room, a superior one, very very clean, smallish couldn't open...

The 3 star is not given by us but graded by authorised professionals. By the way, I'm sorry to inform you also that when we got hold of the hotel twelve years ago, it was decorated with kitsch neon...

The hotel is a little old, but the room was clean and comfortable. The room was a little small but functional. The staff was nice and there is a great little pub downstairs with two fun bartenders. This was the least expensive room we stayed in New Zealand and was worth the price.

Queen Elizabeth II stayed here in 1954, but somehow I don't think she'd stay here in 2017. A lovely building and hotel trying to reinvent itself has a little more to learn about the 21st century tourist/traveller. People's expectations are so much higher these days. When we arrived I did something I never ask and that was to view the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Grosvenor has a penchant for authentic and unique design. Although we have been called a boutique hotel and a hip hotel, we're not sure what that really means. We're a little modern, and a little bohemian. Featuring an on-site restaurant and bar, The Grosvenor Hotel Timaru offers boutique & funky accommodation. Our accommodation offers feature art by local and international artists, throughout the hotel. You might stay that The Grosvenor is Timaru's Home of Modern Art (HoMA). With 44 rooms which are eco-friendly, sustainable and have green elements, like vintage furniture, low-VOC paints and recycled materials throughout. All accommodation has an ensuite with hairdryer, ironing board & iron, tea & coffee making facilities, complimentary unlimited Wi-Fi and TV. Fridges are available on request. Guests can enjoy dining in our fantastic restaurant which is now a Timaru institution, TGB (The Grosvenor Bar) is located in a one of a kind historical building with dramatic high ceilings, nostalgic exposed brick and modern touches. Whet your appetite with local, regional and international beers and cider. Then enjoy innovative tavern fare including traditional roasts, urban burgers, fresh salads, wrap, artisanal sandwiches and many other Kiwi favorites. ... more   less
