I chose this hotel, not for how it looked; although it’s cosy, friendly and has a roaring in the sitting room to welcome you in, but because of how friendly the owner and his family are. When I called up from Saigon, owner NamHong offered to book my sleeper bus into town, rang a local and within hours had organised a trek with a Hmong guide into the mountains. When you’re travelling solo it helps to have someone with local knowledge on hand. Once you’ve left, Namhong checks in to make sure you’ve reached your next destination. It’s the personal touch that won me over on this one. Have your own plan ready to go, and he’ll let you be. His English is excellent but his seven year old son’s is even better and he’ll come play with you by the fire before crashing early for bed while his gentle wife, an English teacher, smiles on. Breakfast is simple but good, hearty eggs and a warm baguette, pancakes stuffed with bananas and chocolate, or yoghurt and fruit. I’d go back

We stayed here after a 2 day trek in Sapa. We had previously stayed in a different hotel in Sapa which was a bit cheaper. But this was well worth paying a little extra and still is great value. The room was big and spacious. They provided both a heater and a dehumidifier which in Sapas cool damp climate is very helpful (in our previous hotel everything we owned felt damp). The location was great, very close to some good resturants. There was a fire burning and breakfast was delicious. Most of all the family who run the place are very welcoming and friendly, it was a pleasure to stay here.

We booked a room for two a few days in advance. At our arrivals, only one person (who did not speak a word of English) was there in the hotel. She dialled the number of the owner, who explained to me that he sent us two mails, to warn us that due to unexpected events, the hotel was closed for a few days (we did not receive the “first” mail, on had only received one mail sent two hours before our arrival. Since we do not spend our time on our smartphone, we missed it). In the end, we could stay at the hotel, only the breakfast could not be served (so it was deduced from the price). We also had the possibility to go to his BnB, which was a bit too far from the activities we had planned. Nothing really to complain about the hotel in itself, except maybe that the neighbourhood was very noisy (people working late in the evening, concert organized not far away,…). The rooms were big enough and very clean, so was the bathroom. We came back two days later (after a 2-days trek), when the hotel was open again: since we had to leave very early in the morning, it was also not possible to take a breakfast there, so that we also received a price cut. We did not meet many people from the staff, so I cannot make any comment about that.

We stayed 1 night in this hostel with my mother. The team (family actually) is very friendly and the rooms are good, plus the place is slightly away from the main center chaos, but still very close to everything. We were pleased to stay there and we recommand it !

When we were searching for hotels up at Sapa we weren't to sure on the area and settled for this place the Thai binh Sapa hotel. As it was pretty Central to everything. It's just up behind the old church. Lugaguge will need to be carried for a short distance. Signage is a bit small so you have to keep an eye out on the entrance. With the price of the room compared to others were weren't expecting much. But what can i say we we're plesently surprised.. Nice sized rooms bathroom was nice. Everything was clean. Beds remade each day and towels replaced. Breakfast made to order There was no air conditioning in the room. but average temps from 18-20degrees we didn't need it. Plus a lovely friendly atmosphere from the owners (who live in the hotel) and staff at the hotel really give it that personal service and that you aren't just a number... The place needs a little work here and there but that's what i like about it. Just an honest comfortable warm place with character If i come back to Sapa i will be sure to stay here again.

Where to start... this hotel is so central if it was more central it would be in the town square itself... the rooms are great ,, clean , and easily accessed. bathrooms are more than adequate.. and the breakfasts are one of the best in Vietnam.for the very reasonable rates charged.. All of this is overseen by the proprietor Mr. Nam Hong.the hotel is misnamed and should be Mr. Nam Hong's Boutique Hotel as he has his finger on pulse of everything that is going on everyday ,, from pickups Lao Cai. to arranging trips to the hill tribes markets or motorbike and scooter hire. for what ever your needs may be . All around I couldn't speak highly enough of this great affordable boutique style hotel,, this was my 3rd stay there and everything is still kept to the highest standard.. I'm happy to supply answers to any other questions any one may have ..E-Mail bgluyas45@gmail.com

I was very much pleased with my last stay here last year. -But things have changed: the very helpsome receptionist Xuyen does not work here anymore, who was good in Englisch, the cosy fireplace was not burning, even we were cold and wet and the breakfast was not as good as last year. -Pitty! But the rooms are still nice and clean, the bathroom good and if you are cold in your bed, they will find you a radiator or an electric blanket.

Very warm welcome with one of the best breakfast that we’ve had in Vietnam. Helpful staff and nice clean rooms. We highly recommend this place. Right from our arrival the staff helped us to book tours and our trip back.

The hotel is great and very friendly. It's a welcoming homestay and the manager and his family will receive you like a member of the family!!! If you want to do untouristic trek do not hesistate to ask the manager (i recommand particurarly a woman called Xi , she speaks a good english and know very well the countryside)

I have reviewed hotels/homestays in my Vietnam trip so I hope my comments on this one have due credibility. This property is listed in guide books as a possible stay, however, it lacks maintenance and has past its time. Location is good and staff try hard but my experience was not a good one. I tried two balcony rooms. I rejected the first because of a latex mattress as hard as a billiard table. The second I thought was tolerable but within two nights I asked to get out of my 5 night stay. It was noisy, had damp, no toilet paper, some lights worked while others didn't, the balustrade had several years of dust and sealing problems between the shower and bedroom wall. The last straw was when I fought cockroaches coming from the drain. However, to be fair, bathrooms were nice and breakfast was good. I tried to talk to the owner about price and value but I didn't think I got anywhere so I moved out. If you are thinking of staying here then negotiate hard and choose fine weather (otherwise a cold wet day will make you miserable here). Sa Pa is going ahead with options with better value places, so shop around. With a bit of TLC and investment in maintenance, this property can be good again. In the meantime, show caution to the descriptions in your guide book.
