We stayed in private room. Everything was good. Shower and toilets are shared with other rooms. The room of course is a hostel room, so don't expect high standards, but it doesnt matter. We had long chats with the owner and had a great experience
This place seems all fine and nice until there is a problem. Found bedbugs when going to bed, had to talk to the owners on the phone and asked to stay at their dorms (which are in a different building than the double beds). They then, instead of letting us walk up to the dorms, wanted to get us transport to Sapa instead, which we said fine to. However they must have changed their minds as they then refused to pay for either the over-priced taxi in the middle of the night (which was their idea in the first place) nor accommodation in Sapa (considering we payed them for this night it is only right they pay for next place). They took it even further and refused to accommodate us in the dorms when we asked over and over to please just let us sleep there and told us to leave over phone and get our money back cash. They just wanted us out of the house and out of town. At 23:30 we had to leave (keep in mind, Tavan is completely dead at this time) having to ask the employees to borrow a phone to find a new accommodation, and to help us wake up a taxi driver in town to take us to Sapa. I have never been treated with less respect in my life and want to warn all fellow travelers that this is not a safe place to be. Had we not insisted on borrowing a phone or the employees to help us find the taxi we would have been standing out in the cold, in a small town that slept, 8 km from the closest town. About the place itself: This is objectively an average homestay, the owners are horrible people that smile as long as you have money on you and their high ratings probably comes from the fact that they bribe you with beer to give them a good review. There were also scraping sounds in two of the rooms (rodents/termites?). The view of the valley can be found at several other locations in Tavan, plase dont do the horrible mistake of coming here risking standing in the street at night.…
The host is really friendly and helpful with booking whatever you want to do. Breakfast is included and is one of the best breakfast I've had in a hostel. Chill vibes are all over this place and the location is extremely peaceful compared to sapa.
This is a great hostel, a few km outside Sapa town. The host is so friendly and helpful, she was being pulled in all directions booking tours and taxis for people and still was so positive and friendly. She allows you to come early if you have an overnight bus to Sapa. The breakfast is delicious, the dorms are very clean, comfortable beds and enough space for bags etc. Lots of comfortable communal space and very sociable. If you like you can arrange busses, taxi, xi om, trekking and to climb mt fan si pan if you are brave enough. The taxi from the bus station should be 200D or xi om 80D.
Booked one night so that we could do trekking through Sapa and ended up staying an extra night because it was so peaceful and relaxing here. Amazing food, friendly hosts and a good atmosphere. The host family helped us change our bus tickets and arranged us a good guide to do our trek. Definitely recommend stay here!
Although I personally disagree with trading off 5-star online reviews for a free night and/or beer, it's not like Ta Van Hostel deserves worse reviews than that. The staff is very helpful and speaks decent English. The common area, overlooking the valley, is cosy and allows for interaction with other guests. The rooms are pretty clean and spacious, although the power outlets are not next to the beds and the beds themselves aren't the most comfortable. However, I had no discomfort and had a great time here. Breakfast is also delicious and plenty! Nice and cheap beers, too.
Would definitely recommend Ta Van Hostel - great location, good food, and comfy beds all for a very reasonable price. Also a fantastic breakfast included in the room cost and the staff are very helpful in recommending local hikes.
Nice place to get away from the city with amazing views! The beds were comfortable; semi firm for those who like to know. No air con but not needed. Does occasionally get muggy in room (we standed in a private room) in the morning but the rooms have a nice fan which takes care of that. Breakfast is amazing, meals are great price and gets lots of food. Highly recommend the noodle soup with Chicken! Only warning is the road to get here is very bumpy, so caution if you have motion sickness, but still well worth it!
I would definitely recommend staying out of Sapa even though its quite a drive. This place was in a valley surrounded by rice fields and small villages and it was so peaceful. 2nd night here was the best sleep I had in Vietnam, with rain and frogs outside! The staff were all amazingly helpful and the walking tour organised from the hostel was great and quite an adventure! The lunch on the wall was also huge and delicious. You can also hire bikes/ scooters to go do your own exploring as well. Only downside is one toilet, when it's a full house there can be quite a wait in the morning but nothing that would put me off coming back!
Spent 2 nights in Ta Van Hostel to escape the (in my opinion) too noisy and touristy Sapa town. The good reviews I had read about Ta Van Hostel were spot on. VU and her systems are amazing hostesses. They'll go out of their way to accommodate you, book your bus rides, transports, and they offer local treks. The spacious dorm rooms fit 6 people, and they are located in an adjacent building. Bed was clean, clean sheets, very comfortable and warm cover blanket for those chilly nights. Clean bathroom, hot water. Very secure locker area. The main balcony area where people gather and eat offer a perfect breathtaking view of the valley. You can chillout in one of the hammocks if you wish. Pet the friendly dogs. Chat it out with everyone. I'm a solo traveller and the second I set foot on the balcony I met friends and left for an awesome trek exploring the area (see photos). Finally food was totally delicious. I spent 1 month so far in Vietnam, and the food was just up there amongst the best of tasted. Cheap price too. Highly recommended. …
