My wife decided to take us to the restaurant for my birthday as it’s known for steak (something she knows I’m a big fan of). The ambiance and general environment is quite nice; the staff was incredibly friendly and polite; however the food was meh overall. We had been here once a few years prior which had been a very good experience, but it seems the chefs have changed for the worse. We decided to get their set menu which included 2 oysters, 2 salads, 2 soups, 2 deserts, a 1kg Australian tomahawk steak, and 4 sides to share (we figured since it was a special occasion, just go for it). In total, it was 1800rmb for the meal including 3 drinks. The first thing we noticed was everything was bland... Even my wife, who never adds salt to anything, found herself adding it to everything. I didn’t eat much of the seafood, but my better half is and she wasn’t too impressed either. However, for the steak we ordered it rare (usually in China they tend to overcook so typically ordering a rare results in something around medium rare), and we were surprised that they brought the steak fairly quick. The maître d brought it table side to cut it and while cutting it, the he seemed a bit surprised but we thought nothing of it. That is until we started eating it and we found a good portion of the cut meat (about 1/4) was completely uncooked (I included a picture below). The sides were kinda disgusting. The broccoli was just simple steamed broccoli, the fries tasted like the oil hadn’t been changed in a while, and the seafood pasta was unsurprisingly bland. Surprisingly, the whipped potatoes were quite good (though, not necessarily the most difficult to cook). Luckily, the deserts were quite good (creme brûlée and apple pie) and a nice note to end on. We were asked if we wanted to take anything home and though we felt guilty for wasting as much as we did, apologized and said no. I’m sad to leave a review such as this, as the overall restaurant and previous experience were great. I’d love to see this place improve back to its former quality, as good steak restaurants are rare in Tianjin. I’ll keep an eye on future reviews to see if it improves at all, so fingers crossed!…
