The hotel is very good and clean inside. The rooms are very clean and attractive... The staff are friendly and keeping service standards. But one thing I noticed that, the reception is not attractive and not so good.
This is a charming old hotel in one of the historic sections of Tianjin. Local attractions such as wudadao are within walking distance and there are shops and restaurants close by. The hotel has fairly large rooms decorated in 20s/30s style and the staff are helpful. Parts of the hotel such as reception look slightly drab but overall the hotel gives a good impression
I had a chance to stay at this unique property and i was purely trying because a friend mentioned it before during her stay in Tianjin. The hotel seems to be one of the cities first International hotels and does have a good charm to itself. The famous old elevator from early 20th century is a clear sign of the hotel history, even though unfortunately it is not operatonial anymore... The rooms are ofcourse not the latest style but comfortable and clean and the bed are very comfortable to sleep in. The spacing in the room is great and the bathroom has all you need... The location is good as it reaches or touches the old Banking street and runs all the way donw to the station is you fancy a nice walk. The famous Astor Hotel is located right around the corner and the convenience of Starbucks or a Shopping mall are not far away. Dining in the hotel is not great but luckily there are options not far away. If you like a unique stay then this is a good budget hotel with unique features. Worth a try if you are not too picky.…
This hotel opened in the late 20' in what was then the British concession. The building is nice and the recent refurbishment preserved the historical character of this place. The old Otis lift installed in 1928 contributes to the charm of the place (don’t worry there is also a brand new one!). The location in Heping district the central part of Tianjin is fine. Most of the customers are Chinese or Japanese. Very little Westerners. The staff is friendly but cannot speak English at all. Being an old building, rooms are much larger than usual. They are equipped with air-conditioning, Internet, WIFI. Furniture and decoration are in the original Art Deco style of the 20’ and I found it relatively simple but elegant. Beds are clean and comfortable. Bathrooms are large too. Inside the hotel it is quiet. The price is very reasonable, which makes it a good choice if you can manage the contact with the Chinese speaking staff. For breakfast, you may prefer something more “Western style” and go to a Starbucks of the neighborhood. There is one on Kaifeng road (开封道), at the crossing with Jianshe road (建设路) that opens at 7:30am on week days and 8:30am on week-ends. It takes 5 minutes to get there. There is another one on Tai’An road (泰安路). The Astor hotel, also on North Liberation road (解放北路) and very close, opened in 1863 is actually the oldest hotel of Tianjin. On evenings, you might be interested in having a drink in the O’Hara’s bar of the Astor, more typical than the Japanese clubs around the First Hotel.…
Very nice welcome at the desk. The entrance hall reminds of a 20ies style hotel and puts you in that kind of travelling mood. An iron elevator cage supports that image. The rooms are big and have a canape which invites to read. Bathrooms have a bathtub are big with. Could need some refurbish, though and cleaned more properly. The hotel's location is in center of town and interesting neighbourhoods are in walking distance. The railway station is in close vicinity as well. Breakfast is very small compared to other hotels in town. I enjoyed the stay very much and would stay again at that hotel. I definitely recommend that hotel.
