So very inhospitable. Auguste the owner turned the lights at their restaurant during our dinner as it was ‘end of time for their staff to be paid at the restaurant’. They did not even come to our table to tell us it was last orders or for us to please leave. They turned the lights off for us to leave our table! The most ridiculous experience - a Fawlty Towers at best. Very basic rooms, no fridge and we were told we could not bring drinks to our room!

First thing - avoid at all costs! Such a lovely spot, nice views and when the north swells run there is just the thunder of massive surf on the reef. And then there is the owner and management - a Chinese migrant basil fawlty without the Sybil or Polly to put things right. Rude. Unprofessional. We had the lights turned out while eating dinner - time over! Next door is nice and - ask around town - worst reputation on the island. I would recommend haapiti side actually.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two weeks in May and I have so many positive things to write about Pension Motu Iti! It’s perfectly located on the island of Moorea close to town, the ferry, beaches, botanical garden and so much more. The owners of the property live there and run the place, they are very friendly and helpful. They will make local calls and help you book rentals and tours. We had an ocean front bungalow and it was absolutely incredible! They have a restaurant on the property which we ate at everyday as well as explored other places. I highly recommend staying at Pension Motu Iti if you are looking for a real Tahitian experience. I can’t wait to go back!

The reception and interaction with reception personnel was ok, but certainly not overly friendly, interested or welcoming. The “reception” area has rather strange opening hours. When we arrived around 17 PM, we had to enter via a unmarked gate. The main entrance was closed with shutters. At 8 PM the common areas shut down, putting it in pitch-black. There’s also no background music to make eating at the restaurant a bit more lively while eating. It’s a bit out of the way from shops, activities or eateries, but there’re still a few within walking distance (lunches only mostly). Or hire bikes from the pension. Bungalow at waterfront are nice. Comfortable bed and patio with semi-comfortable chairs. Fridge and ventilator in room. The food at the restaurant (3x dinner) was very decent, especially the seafood, and served with a smile. There is a small pier and picnic table to jump into the water, a sandy patch between corals, so possible to swim This is a perfect place to stay if you want to savour the Tahiti island feeling while not spending too much money on it. Just try to get the beachfront bungalow. It’s worth the little extra money.

I wanted to be near the sea and not pay exorbitant prices. I chose this place at random, and I was very pleased with it. It had bungalows with seaviews but I stayed upstairs in the dorm. It was tidy with the open windows letting in the breezes. It also had some older electric fans which did a great job and kept off the mozzies. Dengue fever was warned about so take plenty of strong repellent like 'Bushmans". It was humid and hot as it was January and the rainy season but it hardly rained much at all. The light was so beautiful as it changed throughout the day over the water and those dramatic mountains. Moorea was stunning and this pension was so in keeping with the character of the place. It had a lovely restaurant with amazing water views-you could hear the fish jumping right next to you. Lovely variety of fruit for breakfast and coffee. ( No cooking facilities in any rooms). Good cocktails ( at dinner ! )There was a platform to climb down into the water so you could swim and snorkel as much as you felt like, and there was plenty to see. Free seakayaks to use as well. The bathrooms were a bit run down but adequate. The cool thing was the crabs which were huge and had burrows under the concrete path to the loo. Everytime you went they would sense you coming and scurry down to their holes. Hilarious. You can get to Pension Motu Iti by bus and there was a stop right outside. I hired a car which was well worth it to see everything and get to the best beaches (which were absolute heaven). If you book the bungalows directly with place you will get a 10% discount. The dorms are cheap enough and you meet some great people.

Room Tip: Ask for a fan next to your bed if in the dorm. The seaside bungalows would be worth it for the view.
