Stayed for 3 nights and was impressed by the central location. All the other facilities were just so-so, bed comfortable and shower fine. There was a lack of electricity plugs in the room and I had to charge my mobile on top of the unplugged fridge on the other side of the room. Staff was pleasant enough and breakfast the usual hotel grub. Good coffee. Strangely the small bar was closed on Saturday evening just gone 9pm so I couldn’t have beer in the hotel. In my opinion this is a perfectly decent option for a one night stay, if I return to San Jose I will look elsewhere first.
I was in hotel Novo for one night and enjoy it very much. The location just too good to be true. It just walk three minutes and arrive to main bus terminal to take bus to airport. Unbelelievable convenient ! It is very easy to walk around the busiest shopping area from hotel. It is very safe in this area. I had a wonderful sleep because my room is away from trafix noise (no window ) The staffs are very friendly and helpful too. The bus from Jaco to San Jose will stop very close to Hotel. If location is the important factor to choose a hotel in San Jose then hotel Novo is perfect for you. Plu 39 USD per night with air condition room is a good bargain!
This hotel is located a street near downtown, the room is ok. The staffs are friendly, local flavour served for breakfast (optional). From hotel, one can walk to downtown for the main attractions. If you stayed street side room, the bus noise will wake you up early in the morning. If you get there from airport, our suggestion is to take taxi or shuttle bus due to one-way road in San Jose.
PROs: As budge accommodations go, I thought this stay was ok. I think it really depends on your expectations and the price at the time of your stay. The price was cheap during the off season in mid-July - $30/night for a standard 1 bed room. For that price, the room is a very good value in San Jose. You would be hard-pressed to beat that. They actually charged me less than the reserved price on booking, which was $40/night. It would've still been ok for $40, but I don't think it's worth more than that. The breakfast here was small, but good. Guests can choose from a menu with about 4 different choices that are then cooked for them, along with a side of gallo pinto. The breakfast area was pleasant and spacious and the staff was friendly. The bed was only average in comfort, but the sheets were crisp and clean. The A/C and the fridge both worked well. The bathroom space was decent and the counter was long. The room and floor were clean, and the maid service was good. The location is very close to the 7-10 bus station - about an 8 minute walk, as well as about a 10 minute walk to the central avenue and downtown sights. There is an AM/PM convenience store a block away. The girl at the front desk was friendly. CONs: The standard 1 bedroom was definitely NOT 300sq ft. as advertised. It was more like 200sq ft. The room was a little small and the "balcony" was a narrow ledge with standing room only. The Wi-Fi was spotty and did not work the last day we were there, but there are 2 computers with internet that are available (free) for guest use. The neighborhood is a bit darker than the other downtown streets at night, but I did not see as many prostitutes or drug addicts here. There were many homeless people asking for money, but they were not threatening. I didn't really feel unsafe walking around the area day or night, but I did remain aware of my surroundings and vigilant. There really isn't anything in the immediate area except street markets and Chinatown. There are some fast food pollerias nearby, but the food isn't good. You really have to walk to downtown to eat.…
Hotel Novo - it’s all about LOCATION There was not much memorable about Hotel Novo located on Avenida Central y Primera on Calle 14, in the Alajuela neighbourhood. However, realtors indicate LOCATION is everything. I think my friend flagged this accommodation for 2 valid reasons: 1. Easy bus routes: 570 colones for the directo Aeropuerto (2 blocks walking) and $11 US the Terminal de Autobus Atlantico Norte in Barrio Mexico (10 blocks), also directo buses to the eastern Caribbean coast 2. Credit card payment We spent the majority of the evening marooned in our room. It did not appear many people ventured out in the dark after the work rush hour had passed. I was disappointed that the WIFI was not working well. What else would I do in the bedroom? A “typical breakfast” of eggs, toast, wiener, rice and beans was included, but the portion was excessively small. Maybe I need to lower my standards. I am used to an overabundance of food from American and English breakfasts. The weiner was inedible. If I chewed further I may have chipped my tooth. We had to choose between a hot entree OR fruit. If only, they added a small piece of fruit as a garnish. We still needed nourishment, and purchased pollo empanadas at the butcher and deliacross the street. Cheap eats. I think the hotel was overpriced especially since WIFI lacked and it was noisy, but it offered what we needed. Our criteria of access to public transportation was fulfilled.…
