Gaudy’s is an oasis of calm in a busy city. I chose a single room with separate shower. Breakfast is simple but plentiful. The hostel is within easy walking distance of the downtown area, as well as the large park nearby. The staff are friendly and helpful. You are quite literally made to feel at home. Gaudy’s best asset is their manager, Warren. Nothing is too much trouble for him. He went out of his way to help me, and I watched him do the same for several others. Gaudy’s is safe, welcoming and inexpensive. What more can you ask?

Warren, our host at Gaudy, is just one of the kindest person you could meet. He provided us with a hearthy breakfast, loads of coffee and a lot of good ideas for our itinerary. The rooms are simple and clean and there is enough space on the different decks and quiet patios to either work, hang around or meet other Backpackers.

I was just passing through San Jose to the airport and this was the perfect place to stay. I didn’t get to explore the area too much but I do know it was a short walk to La Sabana park and not too far from downtown. The staff were very hello and I even got a free breakfast (eggs, toast, fruit). I am a solo female traveler and felt very safe and comfortable.

Good bedroom and lounge area, but breakfast is a little basic - just 2 pancakes and some sliced fruit. Also, guests have to wash up their own dishes Staff have good English and are helpful. Fan in room and ok bathroom.

I had the chance to stay twice at Gaudys when I was in San Jose. It is a beautiful hostel, makes you feel like home and the staff remembered my name when I returned a second time. They make amazing breakfast and are very clean.
