This hotel is stunning, it has amazing paintings everywhere. It feels like everything a Costa Rican hotel should feel like. The staff are all friendly, the two waiters there were cool guys. I spent a month travelling around the country and out of all the...More
Don Carlos is well located in a barrio of turn of the century buildings of character. however it could do with some updating. A group of us sat in the adjacent lounge for a happy hour drink which seemed to totally flummox the barman. Loud...More

Sorry I didn't answer sooner. We didn't see any noteworthy attractions nearby, but found the parks, streets, shops and markets nearby safe to walk to. We did get out about 10 in the morning, and felt no qualms about being out. The hotel is in the business district, so there always a lot of people around. Our driver from the airport recommended being watchful when we used our cell phones in the event someone came by and tried to grab the phone, but we didn't encounter any thieves.
