We stayed here twice during our visit to Costa Rica: for a few days at the start of our trip, and the last few days before departing. This was our second trip to Costa Rica, but our first with kids (ages 8 and 10). Throughout our travels in Costa Rica we stayed at a number of smaller hotels (i.e. no...

We felt so lucky to have found this place for our first night in Costa Rica. Located walking distance to historic area, it was originally a family mansion. Our room was spacious with a large bath and a tiny courtyard just outside the door. Breakfast by the pool included a visit with the owner, who gave us invaluable travel advice....

We loved our stays at Santo Tomas. We stayed a few times over the course of our 3+ weeks in Costa Rica. We flew in to San Jose, stayed a few days, went to Tortuguero, came back for another day, explored other areas of the country and made it back for a few more nights before heading home. It was...

My wife and I were very disappointed with this hotel. The younger man working the reception on our arrival was rude: his attitude made us feel like unwanted guests, and when he finally took us to our room, he simply dropped our suitcase on the floor and left. We were given no information about breakfast, wifi, etc. (The other hotel...

Hi Carril, From Queens New York, First I have had a meeting already with my employees to reinforce our check in procedure and information given upon arrival. I am not sure what transpired upon your entering the hotel , I do know that sometime travelers , especially during this time of the year have had delays, missed flights and lost...

We were able to plan our wedding at this lovely hotel before arriving. We contacted Heidy (wife of Thomas - the owner), who is an attorney and has scheduled or performed many weddings. Everything went off without a hitch. We had family present and the ceremony was performed by the pool area. The grounds are nicely maintained. We wanted something...

Tomas, the owner, an American expat, has lovingly restored this circa1850 mansion with modern pool, hot tub, plumbing and parking in a convenient location for stays in the downtown area. We had a comfortable bed in the least expensive room, quiet with soaring ceilings and period detail everywhere. For a stay in an authentic extravagant 19th c. mansion, it is...

Hi Mille, The home was built in 1908 and is almost 9000, sq. ft. I have constantly renovated and added on over the past 25 years in operation. I am not sure about the building being flattened by earth quakes, that is really true of Managua, Nicaragua. There are still many historical building around , as you only stayed one...

My husband picked this hotel based on price, reviews, and location. Our best hotel choice this trip. The room includes a breakfast (your choice of about 3 or 4 options). The rate was extremely reasonable for the holidays and location. Everything you need is within walking distance. Thomas is extremely friendly and introduced himself at breakfast our first morning. He...

Found this on the internet. Originally booked one night but they were able to get us in a day early. Minimum here should be two nights. Rooms are spacious and clean. Thomas the owner is friendly and helpful. The city and many of its sites is walkable from the hotel. The common areas invite you to sit, have a drink and relax. Nice stay. Instructions regarding taxi's and how to get from the airport to the hotel were detailed and very helpful.
