This is a lovely clean and well run hostel in a lovely safe part of San Jose. Lots of great places to eat and drink craft beer. Robert will help with anything you need. In addition you can find out about volunteering at the turtle rescue research place. Both well worth it!
My partner and I stayed for a total of three nights at the Turtle Saving Hostel. The owner Robert picked us up from the airport and has been a treasure trove of helpful information. From clear and specific instructions for the pickup (the police chases away any lingering cars, so good procedure is key) to tips what to do in San Jose itself, getting a data plan for your cell phone etc - all delivered with ample sense of humor. The hostel itself is small and well maintained. You share good and clean bathrooms with your fellow travellers, there is a small outside area where breakfast is taken and people can hang out. The breakfast was simple, but really good - fruits and a couple of freshly made pancakes rolled around bananas. Delicious. The only challenge for us soft westerners is the shower setup which is one of these electrically heated shower-heads. This takes a bit of skill to get working properly, but again Robert is happy to assist. As an added side-benefit, you will gain a black-belt in the dark ninja art of noiseless door-closing. Robert is a persistent, but always friendly sensei who helped this rather hapless student to overcome his clumsiness. We can wholeheartedly and highly recommend you to stay there!…
I stayed at the Turtle Saving when I first arrived in Costa Rica and returned for my final night just before flying to Miami. It is a small, charming hostel in a safe neighborhood that is clean and serves a great breakfast in the morning. Another big plus: there a number of different restaurants and bars close. The host is more than happy to make a recommendation and help you in any way he can.
A very clean hostel with all the facilities you'll need. Very friendly and helpful staff. They organise pickups from the airport and give good advise on how to get around in San José. It is located in a safe area with plenty of bars and restaurants.
The hospitality and kindness were over the top. The place was exactly what we needed...a safe place to lay our head at night with a kind face and delicious breakfast each morning. I would absolutely stay again and recommend it to anyone. The neighborhood was quiet with a chill Cali vibe, tons of shops and restaurants nearby.
