A very friendly little hostel. The dorms were very clean, and the staff very friendly. It’s like a small house, with a great living room area to hang out. It wasn’t very busy when I was there which probably added to the charm. The shared bathrooms are clean (separated for male and female), and the outside terrace area is very pretty for breakfast. Only stayed one night travelling through San Jose but would definitely return.

Great base for exploring San Jose. This welcoming hostel provides an opportunity to meet others passing through or staying in the city. Great breakfasts (provided) and clean rooms and shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. The garden is a really nice place to relax, and there are home comforts for those who need it. The hostel is well located in a quieter area but five mins walk from lots of nice restaurants, bars etc. It is a 30min walk to town, less for the national museum. Thanks for a great stay Jan 2019

Beautiful hostel with incredibly helpful hosts. We really enjoyed our stay and found the area quiet and relaxing. It’s also located in probably the best part of the city. We weren’t sure if breakfast was included because we really didn’t see much of a spread at all. Would recommend this hostel for sure, but in general wouldn’t recommend more than 24hrs in San Jose.

I have to say I was beyond disapointed with this hostel. The way i was treated on arrival left me feeling very saddened and unwelcomed. Upon arrival the first guy that met me at the door barely welcomed me with a smile after keeping me outside in the rain for 15 minutes and watched me as i struggeled with my luggage up the stairs without any attempt to offer a hand. I had pre-booked the 'Double Deluxe room' weeks in advance only to arrive and be offered a dorm room with an extra bed in it for the same price as the 'Double Deluxe room'. It was only when I questioned further about the room looking different to the pictures did he then say that the 'Double Deluxe room' had been double booked and that he could offer a discount. There was barely an apology, he seemed like he just didn't care. Upon meeting the other member of staff to discuss the tours I too found him to be extremley unfriendly, it was almost like he didnt want to smile, shake my hand or talk to me and I don't know why. After a long flight and being really tired (my first time in Costa Rica) only to arrive and be treated with such a cold and unwelcoming embrace left me feeling saddened. I decided to check out not long after arriving to look for somewhere else to stay. After a long flight, this is the last thing anyone wants to do. Upon leaving the hostel, again there was no attempt to help me with my bags or to genuinely apologise for the inconvenience.

Our best experience in Costa Rica was in the Garden CR. We thought we would stay for only one night, but we were surprised by the young atmosphere in a trendy decor and chill atmosphere. It was very relaxing with a good breakfast. The staff showed us the neighborhood best bars and restaurants. It was worthwhile to extend our stay with The Garden in San Jose to discover a very trendy and lively city.
