Easy, friendly check-in and check-out. Private room with private bath was very spacious. Ants in one bed (not a total surprise in Costa Rica but there were a lot this time) but we were able to share the other king bed. Otherwise very clean.
I reserved and paid for my stay at Costa Rica Guesthosue using Asiamiles points so my two nights stay here was free. It took 30 minutes drive from the airport(with several stop overs for my other co passengers hotel drop offs) to reach my hotel in San Jose COsta Rica. This lodging place looks like an old residence converted into a guesthouse.
The positive things about my stay here is that its Free, the rooms are spacious, breakfast is free(choice or rice or toast with eggs) ,wifi is fast and they also have a tour desk inside which arranges tours for guests. The reception desk is also open 24 hours. You can also buy drinks and some snacks in the reception area.
Worth mentioning is that they have free flowing coffee and tea in the main reception area which serves as a lounging place and breakfast area for guests.
The very spacious rooms has a double bed, two night lamps an open cabinet to hang clothes and an electric fan.Towels and a bar of soap is also provided.
The only negative thing that I can say about my stay is about the cleanliness of the shared bathrooms and toilets. The whole place smells of chlorine used for cleaning toilets but still the floors and walls of the restrooms are not well maintained.
Dont stay in the Tortuguero room! The hotel itself is quaint with a small communal space and no luxuries. The rooms are reasonably clean but our window didnt close properly which not only allowed in bugs but also made the sound of the tram even more deafening than it clearly would be anyway. Having just arrived in San Jose from the UK we were desperate for a good nights sleep and had not been warned of the loud tram passing every hour or so. Nor had any attempt been made to reduce that sound. We slept awfully and would reccomend any visitors to demand a room well away from the road.
This is a good value accommodation in central San José where everything is quite expensive. The check-in went really smooth and the room was ready in the morning when I arrived. My room was clean and big enough for me to spend the night and to store all my stuff. I booked a room with shared bathroom, which was convenient. There was always one toilet available whenever I needed to go. Just like the bedroom, the shared toilets were well looked after and never smelled bad. The staff was kind and helpful especially the French girl Romane, who really took her time to help me find the suitable tour for my needs. The breakfast was very well done and there were a lot of options to choose from. The complimentary coffee and tea were always available throughout the day and night. This hostel has also got one of the best Wifi in Central America that I have ever experienced. And if you want to go to the mall from here, then the San Pedro Mall is only 15-20 minutes away by foot.
Costa Rica Guesthouse is a bit farther from main attractions than the reviews made it seem. A good 10 minute walk so not too bad. Room was spacious and clean. Bathroom was kept clean and shower was a good size. The lobby area was cute. There is also a nice patio to enjoy your breakfast in. When people reviewed that the food portions were tiny, they weren't exaggerating. I've stayed at another hotel before coming to San Jose that was priced around the same and provided a much larger and definitely more filling breakfast. 24/7 coffee was greatly appreciated. Overall a good stay but could definitely work on the breakfast aspect. 3 thin slices of pineapple and some watermelon won't fill up anyone.

Hello! Dear guest, thank you for your feedback and your comments. However, we would like to emphasize that we do not agree with some of the issues stated by you beacause (our plate of fruit comes always with toasts and we have available during breakfast time jam, butter). We will review your suggestions in order to provide better service. Thank you again for your comments. Pura vida!
