Former 4-star hotel turned into a hostel! Still in good condition, with an all-enclosed beautiful garden. We stayed in a large room with a big bathroom, excellent shower. The on-site 'restaurant' (actually a shared kitchen with a short-order cook) prepared some decent food for us after our late in the evening arrival (problems with Solid Car Rental - they used to be good but I'm done with them, Alamo MUCH better). Very secure underground parking! Very friendly yoga-people and backpackers make up the majority of the clientele. After our excellent night's sleep, I wandered the neighborhood and took many photos of the hostel and the garden - beautiful! And the complimentary breakfast was made to order and delicious. Recommended!
For the money can’t recommend this hostel anymore. My boyfriend and I got one of the private rooms, beds were soo big and comfortable! Good shower and delicious breakfast included in the morning. Didn’t feel the staff were the friendliest but hey ho! Area around hostel is safe and there is a supermarket 1 minute down the road, quite far from bus stations though.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night while stopping in on route to the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. It is in one of the safer areas of San Jose. The dorms and bathrooms were clean and nicely laid out. Close to restaurants and supermarkets but not close to any airports or bus terminals.. Only downsides: pool and jacuzzi are cold and much smaller than the picture The common kitchen area was a disaster. We were told no food or snacks in the room because of bugs so we brought our grocery store purchases to the fridges in the kitchen and were embarrassed for this hostel. The fridges were bursting with plastic bags full of old grocieries and the smell and residue was disgusting. Not sure if the employees are in charge of cleaning this out but it is obviously overlooked.…
Really enjoyed my short stay at Fauna Luxury Hostel as a solo female traveler. Relaxing vive and cool sleeping pods, with rooftop views of the city. Out of the way from downtown San Jose but easily accessible by bus or taxi. At the time I stayed here it was $14 a night. Prices have gone up since then. Centralized to grocery store, restaurant and coffee shops. Fauna arranges shuttle pick up from San Jose airport which is a perk. The amount of shuttle is $30. Takes away the stress of figuring out how to get there on your own in a foreign country. Also, local tour operators picked me up and dropped me off from Fauna to take me to my tours which was awesome. The best part was I made new friends in my mixed dorm hostel, Sharon and Milton.
Just had a 1 night stay on our first day in Costa Rica before heading to the Atlantic coast. We are going back for another night before leaving the country. It’s not too far from the airport yet in a residential area. Very, very good value for money. We stayed in one of the private rooms for 4. Very clean, spacious and quiet at night. And above all very nice staff, in particular a big thank you to Pablo who gave us a good help on locating our delayed luggage, he was really available for us. Thank you Pablo. And the rest of the team too! See you again very soon.
