Enjoy your stay in Puntarenas!
The hotel is simply terrible, specially for the price. You can find way better options on the same or lower budget. The rooms are old, the breakfast was bad and the coffee absolutely terrible. Very bad
I stayed 4 nights for business, friendly treatment and good cleaning. My stay would have been better if I had access to Wi-Fi, they told me that the router on the second floor had broken down, so I couldn't work. Nor do they have laundry service.
If you are looking for ahotel In Puntarenas at Paseo de los Turistas just 5 minutes walk to main port of Puntarenas...Hotel Tioga is what you are looking for Also about 4 long blocks to Ferry Terminal to Paquera and Playa Naranjo. If you need a nice clean place to take the first ferry to Paquera of Playa Naranjo...this can be the place you need. Also 5 minutes from the SODAS by the sidewalk...to get a good Casado or one of the fmous CHURCHILLS...( Ice cones)
My friend and I were recently supposed to stay at Hotel Tioga for 3 nights, and would recommend anyone considering staying here run the other way. Upon our shuttle dropping us off our driver told us not to walk around at night; from that point on we were a little bit worried, but figured we would try and give it a chance. Our reservation had specifically stated that we would have a room with a view of the pool, and free wifi, which we ended up with neither; this was also the most expensive hotel we would be staying at, yet the least attractive that we had seen by far. Our room was down a dark dingy hallway on the 3rd floor, with no wifi. We decided to try and see if we could find the meeting place for our cruise the next day, and when trying to follow the street directions we had, we were unable to because of the lack of street signs. We decided we didn't want to get lost without any cellular data in the area, and headed back to the hotel. After a lot of contemplation we decided to head back to Monteverde and not stay in Puntarenas or with Hotel Tioga. The shorter man with dark hair was very helpful even though there was a major language barrier; we did our best to communicate so he would understand since the native language is Spanish and we were the visitors. He saw our efforts and helped as much as he could. Upon arrival back to Monteverde we had at least 5 locals that have grown up in Costa Rica tell us that the city of Puntarenas is not a place for tourists, and they wouldn't even want to stay there. We spent 3 days trying to contact the manager of the hotel to ask about the possibility of a refund, and were ignored, and evaded the entire time. It wasn't until yesterday that I received an email back of him disputing me, and telling me we had no reason to feel uncomfortable, and basically denying my personal feelings, and what we had heard from locals throughout the country. This is not a hotel that understands the customer service industry, my friend and I just wanted to speak with someone about the possibility of a refund, we knew there was a chance we would not get our money back, and that is fine; it is the fact that they will evade any problems you have, and will that your worries or complaints are unreasonable. If you are looking to travel to costa rica I highly recommend visiting Arenal, Monteverde, Manual Antonio, Jaco, or Tamarind, but STAY AWAY FROM PUNTARENAS AND HOTEL TIOGA.…
We visited this hotel 2 years ago and returned again, this time was much better and the attention was outstanding, we know that it is not a 5 stars hotel but the hospitality received was great, I recommend this hotel if you want to visit Puntarenas beach and you don't have to pay a lot of money per person as other hotels in the area. There are many restaurants at walking distance as well you can enjoy visiting this place alone or with your family. We enjoyed the pool as well the beach just crossing the street. We will be back soon. The internet was slow but honestly, who cares? We went to enjoy the beach and not wasting time surfing on the web, it is more healthy walking on the beach and enjoy an Ice Cream or a Soda looking the sunset.
