I was between two hotels in Puerto Jimenez and ended up choosing this one after driving past both of them. I went in asking for the cheapest room as I really didn't need anything fancy and it was just me anyways. I stayed in room 19 for the two nights before a 3 day hike of Corcovado and in room 4 the night I got back. Room 19 was superior (and it was more expensive) but I wouldn't say room 4 was bad... I just preferred 19. I was originally supposed to be in 5 when I came back but they had to change me. The woman apologized but I honestly didn't mind... as long as I had a bed and shower I was content and she was so kind that I couldn't imagine being angry at her. Pablo and John were also very helpful throughout the stay. They helped me get my ziplining scheduled, the free kayaks were really nice, John made sure I knew to take cash to Drake Bay, and they gave me all of the best places to eat/visit in Puerto Jimenez. Additionally, during my 3 day hike, they let me keep my luggage and car there which was greatly appreciated.

The only reason we stayed in Puerto Jimenez was proximity to activities on Golfo Dulce - and wow, the Bungalow room at Cabinas Jimenez is RIGHT ON THE WATER. Outdoor kitchen with fridge, micro, stove top, sink, coffee maker, dishes/utensils - very convenient & the view cannot be beat. We appreciated having a clean place with no weird smells, comfortable bed, small safe in the room, friendly staff, A/C, free wifi and reasonable rates. Yes, we got a discount for paying with cash but that seems pretty much standard on Osa. Location is very convenient to walking downtown & to beach restaurants & to the dock for boating activities. We did not use pool, bikes or kayaks. We felt safe. No need for alarm clock - the parrots will wake you up & tell you when it’s time to go to bed. Shower had water that got warmer when pressure was lower and there was a problem with most of the outlets not working in the room - electricians came in & fixed it, but then the problem recurred. The point is that if something isn’t right, the staff listens & tries to solve the issue. Staying here reminded us a bit of “glamping” (glamour-camping). Liquid soap & bars of soap were supplied in rooms; filtered water in the lobby. There are many styles of rooms but we recommend going for the best one you can afford/book (Bungalow is the best). Owners & staff here love Osa & PJ and they love to talk about the area & help make your stay the best it can be.

The location is great, but it is a little tired and could do with some work. What was odd is that the AC units are in the bathroom and so this makes for a very cold bathroom when you go to use it. Also, you need to be careful with the room selection as they are all very different and some are very dark. Luckily I was given two upgrades to get to a room where light and a view (this helped to keep the review at 3). A real problem for me though, was the dark sheets (these were a dark dark blue). Only once before did I stay at a place that did had dark sheets and I said I would never do that again. With dark sheets you just never know how clean they are, sorry. Most everywhere does white sheets and there is a reason for that.

We stayed at Cabinas Jimenez for almost a week. The location is great and the free kayak and bike situation is awesome, but a few things really, really rubbed us the wrong way. First-- We spent hundreds of dollars at this hotel, but they insisted we pay in cash for a special deal so that "we" (read - "they") didn't need to pay tax. And we stayed close enough to the lobby that we realized nearly all of the guests were paying cash too. Having stayed at various hotels around the country, this was the only one that insisted we pay cash to avoid tax. I think it's very irresponsible and shady that this company is cashing in on the location and the Costa Rican culture and probably the majority of their business is run off-book. On top of that, it's run by ex-pats, so IMHO, seems almost like an exploitation of the Costa Rican economy. Play by the rules or get out of the business. Second-- we took a walk on the bay during low-tide and saw a water pipe draining soapy water into the bay, and the pipe was coming directly from the property. Again, the location is good and staff was friendly, but it doesn't make up for the exploitative feeling I got while staying here. I would not come back to this hotel and I really hope they change their business model.

This was really one of the best places we have stayed at in Costa Rica. The hosts John and Annie and the whole staff are so friendly and welcoming, it felt like arriving home rather than in a hotel. The whole area is spotless, there is a lot of plants and even a small pool. In the almond trees just in front of the pool you can observe wild scarlet macaws every day! I would recommend booking straight through them, like this you can see all the different rooms that they have available and find your best fit, best to call or send an email beforehand tho, they are very quick at answering. All rooms have coffeemakers and delicious coffee included, some rooms come with an amazing, fully equipped semi outdoor kitchen, a huge private seating area overlooking the water. This room has space for like 5 people so perfect for a family with a bunk bed (lower bed queen or even king size) plus another big bed. It is quiet but still in a great location with walking distance to supermarkets, restaurants and tour operators. John offers some tours as well, dolphin watching for example. We felt very safe there and you can park the car inside the premises where they close the gate over night. There is a safe in every room for your valuables. One of the best features of this place is of course the free kayak and bike rental. They will explain you when the best time to kayak is in terms of the tide, so you don't have to carry the kayak for ages. There was two seater ones and single ones and I believe even a stand up paddle board. They also provide life vests. We paddled out on our first day a bit late, maybe an hour to sunset but it was so nice, we saw bottlenose dolphins within 1 meter of our kayaks! On the way back we had to carry the kayaks for a short distance. The next day we paddled towards the big mangroves to the right, ask the staff about the best place. It was amazing and we spent about 2 hours and would've loved to do it again. Almost at the end there is a short path over sand to the beach on the other side. The wifi worked very well and was free. They seem to be very pet friendly as well, no noisy animals around though. We would've loved to stay even longer and done some more kayaking. Definitely recommend and will be back!
