Loved this place! Stayed with 2 small kids and they loved it too, we were all sad to leave. "Glamping" is a perfect description. The host was very nice and one of grounds keepers came over to show us some wildlife! Very quiet, secluded. Bug...More
Pros: Safe, quiet ocean front property, well maintained, housekeeping very attentive, all meals beautifully prepared, the staff, especially Monika, are wonderful and are truly invested that you enjoy your stay, surfing is within easy walking distance and works at all tides except peak low tide...More
My boyfriend and I stayed at Casa Rio Sombrero. It is total perfection. Would be great for two couples as well. The open kitchen and small pool were the homes highlights in my eyes. So close to the beach and countless iguanas and macaws. Beautiful...More
My family and friends of eight stayed a week at Boca Sombrero. The complex is large with several acres of garden-like landscaping. We stayed in the main house and one of the tent cabinas. The house layout is a typical open concept next to the...More
What a beautiful and convenient location. We stayed in the Playa Sombrero Cabina and it was like our own little resort! Private pool and a little remote indoor/outdoor kitchen that we hung around while making meals or playing cards. The beach break out back is...More

Fly into San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO) Juan Santamaría International Airport (Spanish: Aeropuerto Internacional Juan Santamaría) is the primary airport serving San José, the capital of Costa Rica. The airport is located near the city of Alajuela, 20 km (12 miles) west of downtown San José.
Then you can either fly to Puerto Jimenez, take a shuttle (I do this sometimes--I have a great driver and it is hassle free, then I rent a car when I get there) OR you can rent a car and drive. Beware that the 2 airlines that fly around Costa Rica have low weight limits for luggage. If you are travelling light, it works. They have 3 different rates according to weight of luggage. Sansa and Nature Air fly to other cities (small craft). They fly right into Puerto Jimenez. If you want my drivers name, let me know. I have friends in Costa Rica. That is how I got his name. The shuttle ride is at least 6 hours but someone else is driving. The new highway opened up couple years ago so it is much better. If you rent car, be sure to rent 4 wheel drive and get a bigger jeep/SUV--not small. Depending on the time of year you may have to drive thru small rivers. I have rented from many places--been to Costa Rica 15 times. Don't rent from Solid. Terrible. Toyota in Puerto Jimenez is new, very good vehicles, good rates. Contact Tristan at Osa Rainforest Rentals for additional help. He is probably the best manager of rentals in the area (honest, extremely helpful, very nice, very involved with the community and well-respected by the locals--it makes a difference) Have a Blessed Vacation. p.s. Once you are at Boca Sombrero, take the dolphin tour. there are some other interesting resorts I have visited but not stayed yet. I love this area so much. I love the Arenal area too--the volcano/ hot springs.

"I stayed in a house (1 has a small pool, another has a big pool), so I don't know the tent situation."
