Two couples staying 3 nights. Our friends were in Dome 1. We were in the standard beach room #3. Two things were out of this world. Staff. Every single person we encountered were so friendly and accommodating. This made our stay. The grounds are beautiful and lush. Paradise. Beach can be seen from your bed. Pool area is lovely with a waterfall. Restaurant has lovely views of the ocean regardless of where you sit. Yoga studio upstairs is a nice place to sit and view the ocean, read a book, or take a yoga class. (Daily 8am $15) What we didn’t care for: You MUST leave your car in town in a secured lot. Driving on the beach on the sand is not safe. When we checked out, someone’s 4x4 was blocking the road because they got stuck. It’s a pleasant 15 minute walk to town along the sand and small road, or they will take you free of charge. The rooms were tiny. Not enough room for a chair and no place to put your bags. Fortunately we don’t use ac. Good thing. It didn’t work very well. If this is important to you. With rooms so close to the ocean, the rooms have that musty/mildew smell. Can’t be helped, but if this bothers you, take note. Breakfast and Dinner are included. We found the food to be mediocre at best. For dinner you are entitled to one juice and one entree. No substitutions or alterations or you will be charged extra. Example, one night I ordered a small salad and bowl of soup, priced less than an entree. We were charged extra for the salad. We really wanted to like this place, but left disappointed. We would not return to this area or hotel again. Such a pity because the setting and staff are some of the best we have encountered anywhere. One more thing. This property seemed better suited to families. Lots of young children running around un checked while we were there. Surprising considering the price point. Maybe it was just the 3 nights we were there.

Hi Kathy, We're sorry to hear you were disappointed by your stay, but we're glad you enjoyed our staff and our location. Our beautiful grounds, garden and beaches are due to our remote location which comes with the lack of having a road. Many of your complaints are valid, our rooms are small because our hotel has been here for 30 years, and while we've made updated renovations, we are unable to modify the building sizes due to local laws. We do wish we could change this, but unfortunately, it's not within our power! As well as parking in town, we do not have a road to get here, which is part of the charm. It means that our beach is not overcrowded and very few people come through. If having you car at your fingertips is essential to you, then yes, we may not be your spot, but a car is not necessary in Montezuma as everything is walkable. the beautiful beach that you can see from your room is in part because we have unspoiled beaches due to the lack of our road. Some things are a trade off. Most guests rave about our restaurant, but we're sorry it wasn't to your liking. I spoke to your husband who seemed to really like it! Being on the beach and in the jungle, there is a great deal of humidity. Usually the smell is eliminated by having the AC on, but if you didn't use it, then yes, it probably got very humid in your room. The Standard Room you stayed in is one of our more basic rooms and tends to have more humidity. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip in Costa Rica. Pura Vida, Emma and Moraya Iacono

Santa Teresa, Costa Rica8 contributions3 helpful votes
As a surprise for my husband on his birthday we spent a weekend with our small family at Ylang Ylang. We live only an hour away, in Santa Teresa, but Ylang Ylang felt like a real holiday away from home. We rented a couple quads for the journey through the jungle, and even in the pouring rain of May we had a great time enjoying the scenery. As we arrived, check-in was quick and smooth, and soon enough we were all warmed up thanks to the hot water outdoor shower and bathtub. It was a cozy afternoon watching the storm, reading, exploring the tide pools right at our doorstep and later, when the rain was down to a drizzle, finding red-eyed tree frogs on the trail back to our bungalow. Thanks to all the staff who were friendly and helpful the whole way through. We hope to be back soon!

You won’t find a more beautiful resort anywhere, than Ylang Ylang. Gorgeous layout, stunning ocean views, warm, friendly, loving staff who really care about the quality of their service, huge menu with lots of variety of fresh, organic food, which includes extensive vegetarian and vegan options, Be sure to book a massage with Jerilyn in the magical spa room in the jungle. I can’t wait to return!

We have a house in Costa Rica and over the years Ylang Ylang has become our favorite hotel when taking a vacation from a vacation. The location, right on the beach with crashing waves, simply cannot be beat. We just completed our fourth stay at Ylang Ylang and we are planning to return next year. The Ylang Ylang staff is now like family. On line or elsewhere potential guests should take a look at the swimming pool area which is fabulous. Did I mention the monkeys....

We spent 4 days out of a 7 day trip at Ylang Ylang and it was our favorite place and experience! I have never experienced better customer service. Every staff member was exceptional, accommodating, kind and welcoming. We also had some of our best meals of the trip on site!! I don’t think we could’ve beat the quality of this experience for the price. The property is absolutely beautiful and facilities were clean. We stayed in the Coco Joe bungalow and felt like we had our own private beach as our front porch. We can’t wait to go back!
