Real ecolodge nice views and very close to everything, breakfast is delicious. Is a really ecolodge you wake up with the sounds of the birds and monkeys. The pool is great and you will feel the peace in the air. Is not a luxury hotel, the bungalow is rustic but views and environment is great. Personal is so kind

We really loved this place. We spent two nights in a kind of a cabin in the middle of the trees. You can hear and see a lot of animals, the view was incredible and you can use hammock in the front of your habitation. Breakfast was very good, the swimming pool clean and really peacefull and the owner very kind. Great experience.

My bungalow in the jungalow was 87 stairs to heaven. It was exactly what I was looking for when I planned my adventure. Hilcia and her staff were amazing. They took incredible care of me. My bungalow was always nice and clean, and the breakfast was lovely every morning. I was able to keep all beverages and food in the fridge in the common area, and the wi-fi (also in the common area) allowed me to FaceTime my Son morning, noon or night. The bungalow was rustic. If you don’t like bugs, you should consider another option (although you’d be missing out). This is not a complaint. I loved the breeze flowing through my abode and the awe inspiring sunsets. The walk to Santa Theresa took about 7 minutes. The beach is a 3 minute walk. Everything is within reach if you want it and far enough away if you don’t. I left my sweater there and Hilcia was kind enough to mail it all the way to Canada for me. I recommend Hilcia and the Blue Jay Lodge to everyone. I left a piece of my joy-filled heart there and I will be back. XO

My husband, son(18), daughter(17) and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Mal Pais at Blue Jay Lodge. The bungalow was a delightful space with full shower and a large bedroom and balcony with a window onto the forest of Mal Pais- just what we wanted. A large ceiling fan and an oscillating fan kept most of us comfortable in the heat. The staff were friendly and very helpful. We met guests from France and the US, during our stay. The typical Tico breakfast was delicious as was the Americano. The lovely Mal Pais beach is just across the street and the pool is adjacent to the breakfast pavilion. Hearing the Howler Monkeys in the mornings and seeing large iguanas and beautiful birds from our balcony hammocks was a wonderful treat. Our children especially loved Poopah(sp?)- the 2.5 year old, resident canine, who followed my daughter "home" to our bungalow one night and greeted us for a belly rub, at every breakfast.

We like staying here and visit each year. We like the openness of the cabins, the view from the balcony, and the people of the hotel. Some cabinas are higher than others, so if you have trouble with steps you may not want one of the high ones. Personally I like the exercise aspect and after a day or two I don't have an issue. The breakfast, which is included, is delicious, filling, and nutritious. The beach is across the street; this section of ocean is rocky. However, at low tide there are pools to go in that are enjoyable. Water shoes are recommended when you swim. The hotel does have a pool that is clean and refreshing to swim in.
